Joining two routes into one? – image 1

I think it's not possible. Once again, it might sound like a madness.
I'm sorry for my question.
The polemics were generated in a European website, where someone wanted to join 2 existing routes into a network.
I'm not sure if it's possible or not, never heard of it before, but I believe that it must be quite impossible to join 2 routes, unless both were built with the same criteria. How can we assemble all the track pieces into one .TDB file? there might be many conflicts with textures and shapes with similar names, problems with the World files, with the limit of 1600 objects per tile, etc...
I read that they were building a German route made up by several parts, to be assembled at a later time.I apologize for this stupid question, but anyway I'd like to gather more information about related topics. links, etc...
Perhaps this was treated here before (and I'm not the only one) As far as I can see, so far we only build routes in a linear and sequential way, following the golden rule.I'd like to read comments and opinions,
Thanks for all in advance...

RE: Joining two routes into one?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-04 AT 08:07 AM (EST)

Hello,You can join two Routes using TSUtil/Route-Riter.
Here are the steps:
If YOU want to merge Route-B into Route-A, there are some presumptions:- There is no COMMON tile to both routes
- Signal-Definitions are identical
- Speedpost-Definitions are identical
- both routes use the same global 'tsection.dat'
- bias of local 'tsection.dat' is identical if these presumptions are NOT met, you should use RE, TSUtil or an editor to establish them.
e.g you can build a common Signaldefinition and use it.Next you must get some values from route-A:
- last used dynamic section-number from local 'tsection.dat' (=sc)
- last used dynamic path-number from local 'tsection.dat' (=sh)
- number of track-nodes from tdb-file (=tn)
- number of track-nodes from rdb-file (=rn)
- number of TrItem-Definitions from tdb-file (=ti)
- number of TrItem-Definitions from rdb-file (=ri)These are the steps:
- MAKE a Backup of both routes
- use geometrie-extractor to create all quad-definitions of route-B in route-A. Do NOT generate tiles.
- copy Tile-definitions from route-B to route-A.
- check height-level of routes with RE (see later)
- decompress all world-Files of both routes
- copy global 'tsection.dat' to directory 'Routes'
- increment maximum section-value of global 'tsection.dat' to ' + 2'
- increment maximum shape-value of global 'tsection.dat' to '<sh> + 1'
- use TSUtil 'cvrt'-function to create modified files:
java TSUtil cvrt -b.../Routes/tsection.dat -t<tn>:<rn>:<ti>:<ri> .../Routes/<route-B>... <logfile>
The modified files are created in 'route-B/newRoute'.
- copy 'tsection.dat' from 'Routes' back to global-directory
- copy modified world-files of route-B to route-A. NO overwrite will take place
- use an editor and append section-definitions of modified local 'tsection.dat'
to local 'tsection.dat' of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use an editor and append path-definitions of modified local 'tsection.dat'
to local 'tsection.dat' of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use an editor and append tracknode-definitions of modified tdb-file to tracknode part of tdb-file
of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use an editor and append tracknode-definitions of modified rdb-file to tracknode part of rdb-file
of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use an editor and append TrItem-definitions of modified tdb-file to TrItem-Definitions of tdb-file
of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use an editor and append TrItem-definitions of modified rdb-file to TrItem-Definitions of rdb-file
of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use an editor and append TrItem-definitions of modified tit-file to TrItem-Definitions of tit-file
of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use an editor and append TrItem-definitions of modified rit-file to TrItem-Definitions of rit-file
of route-A. Add both count-values.
- use TSUtil-'ichk' to check new route. Now you can close gaps between both track-definitions.Height-level of both routes may not be correct. In this case you have to adjust the level of one route
BEFORE merging them. Use 'adjh'- Function to lower/raise tiles and start merging again.
regards
carloshr
PS: The implementation of this function into TSUtil continues.
Some fragments are already available.

Carl:Thank you very much for this post. I'm really satisfied with all this information.
Just one last question is this: I suppose that I must fix one of the route's latitude/longitude values, with something like Route Riter 6, so that they fit well, because a slight difference will mean lots of miles away.
My curiosity was triggered when I knew that a man wants to join two routes made in MSTS, that run through Spain, to make a network including both, and he gave the example that they're making a German route by separated modules.
If you like to send me more info, you may send me an E-mail to my address eduardourcola@speedy.com.arThis issue was worth Once again, thank you very much.Kind regards....

RE: Joining two routes into one?

Hello,OK, it does not make sense to merge two routes which are far away subject to longitude/latitude.
But if you really want to merge such routes, you can move one route with TSUtils/Route-Riter so that the routes become adjacent (but do not overlap).regards

Thanks, Carl! Are you one of the men who are making the Cologne-Berlin route by separate parts?
This is a very interesting issue.Kind regards...

Carl:OK, Thanks a lot!
You gave me a complete information and very valuable help.
If you allow me to, I'd like to share this information with a couple of friends, for the new projects that we'll have in the next future.Kind regards
