How can I get from one end of a route to the other that will not take all day? Ok say I want to add a sanding tower at Anderson on the Pon9 but when I open the route RE I am all the way over on the other side of the route how can I quickly get to Anderson with out searching with the Arrow keys and stuff?
Go into the Activity Editor and find the location you want to go to. On the upper left will be the co-ordinates for that spot. Write these down.Close AE and go into the RE. After it has loaded, press your "Home" key (between Insert & Page up on mine), enter those co-ordinates written down from above, press ENTER and you will be very close to where you wanted to be.Then comes the fun RobertR .. Kenya: I use the RE alot, take Marcs' advice and get Jumper. It IS worth every penny ( $10 )and then some. All my routes are in Jumper, I can go to any siding or station in seconds. Time saved alone is worth it.John CYNDI RICHARDS 1938 * 2004 You will always be here with us.
I got Jumper, but before getting the benefit of jumping around in a route in the RE you got to know the Compass co-ordinates you want to "jump to" and tell Jumper. I do what Bob suggests, using the AE I put the mouse pointer on the spot I want to go to in the RE and make a note of the Compass co-ordinates shown top-left in the AE. Pressing Home in the RE and entering them will take you there instantly !O t t o
Hi Otto:When I first got Jumper, I would open a route in RE, then run the route from beginning to end. Along the way I would "grab" and "add" the sidings and stations. Six months later if I want to work at Essex Pit Siding, 1 click and I'm there. No more going into the AE, navigating to a spot, writing down numbers, go to the RE, and type in the numbers. Also, don't have scrap papers with cryptic names and numbers littering the desk. Bonus; less paper saves a tree. John CYNDI RICHARDS 1938 * 2004 You will always be here with us.
Kenya, the first advice I gave was simply not knowing how much, how often and in how many routes you would be working. As John and others here have said, Jumper is probably best for most people that move around a lot in the RE.My reason for doing it the old way is that I'm basically working in one route (for the past 3 years) and have all the co-ordinates I need on the desktop, so it is just a matter of looking at the bottom of the screen and putting them in.That's the neat thing about MSTS .. there are often many ways of getting the same thing done.RobertR .. So true, and something I failed to take into account. I use the RE alot and jump around in it, so for me, it's great. For others, probaly not. I also find it's Transit feature to be indispensible for placing signs, objects, etc.John CYNDI RICHARDS 1938 * 2004 You will always be here with us.
