RE: BNSF Burlington Northern Santa Fe route updates if

I am building the ATSF Seligman Sub. It has over 300 miles of double track. It runs from Needles CA over the Arizona Divide to Winslow AZ.
It features Canyon Diablo (Bridge by Ron Picardi), branch up to the Darling Cinder Pit (extinct volcano where ballast in mined), both the old and new routes between Williams Jct and Crookton AZ. Old line has left hand running and was built using 1951 track charts. Lots of high desert fast running and lots of mountian railroading. The double track separates in numerious places with uphill grades of 1.42% and down grades of 1.80%. This line handles 100 trains a day.
Terrain by DEMEX with distant mountains.
Rail layed 100%
Highways 10% Old US 66 (the mother road follows the RR)
Scenery 35%
Interactive objects
and terrain textures 0%
Release Spring 2005

No - I have the Grand Canyon as a separate route. It is DEMEXed with distant mountains. It includes about 15 miles of the canyon at end of track. To see the canyon in MSTS, I had to build a fictional line along the rim of the canyon. I have all the track layed - 64 miles. Its gonna take a lot of work to get the textures in the canyon to look acceptable. I have Mosaic which should help. The route has no signals and no towns other than Willims so that part of building it should go quickly. I am going to make Williams look the same in both routes. In the Seligman Sub I built the Grand Canyon line just beyond where it crosses under the transcon mainline and goes out of sight. In the grand canyon route there are a few miles of the transcon where the routes cross - so other than having to change routes - it will look like it is one route.

Sounds great! I will definitely be patiently waiting. I will try to get some vintage SF scheme stuff to be able to run on it. No photoshop on the comp right now so I'm working on base schemes for the pre-74' paint scheme. (GP35, SD40, GP7, GP9, 44-tonner)

Did you stay with default track and roads on this route or did you go to add-ons.The original Raton Pass line should still be in the library and it is one of the better routes done in the early days.J. H. Sullivan

Maybe both - It has some roundhouses in it that have since been torn down.
As far as stations, the only difference is a Amtrack sign on the old original station. I can put the Amtrack signs on the stations or maybe make a addon that does that as an option. The Super Chief or a steamer would look strange stopping at an Amtrak station.
Signals are another problem - this line had many many signal bridges.
In the last few years they have all been torn down when it was changed from a mix of CTC and ABS to 100% Bi directional CTC. I built the route from 1988 ATSF track charts, so thats pretty much what the line looks like right now. I probably will put stuff in from several eras, to satisfy as many different interests as possible.

I plan on getting Mike Vone's book. If I can get the hang the RE, I would like to build the Ft. Worth Sub (Gainesville to Temple). It would be no small feat however. It would require lots of custom buildings (Cleburne shops, probably a lot of downtown Ft. Worth, etc.) and even more patience. The mainline alone is about 200 miles. with several yards. If I ever build it, we would be talking 2007 probably until I could finish it because I stay pretty busy.

>Did you say Gainesville to Temple! I better get a new hard drive. If I chose not to do all Gainesville to Temple, I would choose Cleburne to Temple (One of the old GC&SF districts). I'll be sure to be post about it if I ever get to the poitn of building. Don't get your hopes too high now, though. I still haven't even learned how to use the RE.
