I remember hearing about work being done on the Pokey and a big section of the Piedmont Division earlier this spring / summer.....I haven't heard anything since, and both routes were reportedly only a few months from nearing completion. I recall that the Piedmont Div route included screen shots. Are these routes still being worked on? If so, how are things going? Has anyone else started any other Norfolk Southern / heritage routes?-Eric Shock

RE: Norfolk Southern Updates?? (Pokey, Piedmont Divisio

I'm slowly plugging away at the NS Harrisburg Line, from Rutherford Yard in Harrisburg to Spring Street Yard in Reading. I wanted to include the PRL branch (former Conrail Akron Secondary), which runs from Reinholds to Reading but I hit the Great White Void just north of Reinholds. Anyway, I have no timetable for completion but hopefully it'll be finished before the turn of the century. I know I'll be finished before then .

The NS Danville District is one of the routes I am slowly plugging away on, but don't get excited because it is doubtful that it will ever be finished.Austin Yoder is making good progress on the Pokey, and I'm sure as soon as he sees this thread he will jump in with a better update.

RE: Norfolk Southern Updates?? (Pokey, Piedmont Divisio

Hi Eric:Funny you should ask. The NE Georgia/SC route is actually making progress again. I think I'm the only one working on the Piedmont Division. I had to stop for a while to earn a living. Work is getting more managable, so I've picked up speed on the route. The last update I gave had me somewhere north of Corneila, GA. I've now crossed the Well's Viaduct and I'm about a mile south of the yard in Toccoa, GA.I haven't given up. It's a highly detailed route and I'm still making progress. When I enter the town of Toccoa progress is going to slow down again - lots of buildings to place and build, and I've still got to return to Gainesville to do something about framerates. They're just too high to suit me.I'll try to post a few screen shots soon - maybe tonight. It's mostly the North Georgia mountains you'd be looking at.There's also a Georgia Division route being built by builderjones. It starts south of Macon and runs north through Atlanta and then heads up toward Tennessee.3DTrains is working on some Southern Rwy F-units. That's likely to stir up a little interest also.Hope this helps.Mark

Well, live and learn. I didn't really study the geography. Heck, for years I thought it was the GEORGIA division that ran through Northeast GA. Go figure where I came up with THAT idea. Then I found out it was the Piedmont Division. Obviously the very southern end of it.I rode the Crescent behind E8's up through Washington, DC so I've been through the Danville District, and as I recall it was beautiful. So were those E8's. I think GG1's picked up the train in DC - but that might have been the Silver Meteor or some other ACL/SCL train. I rode them all. Thanks for the geography lesson! Of course if I'd looked at your web page I'd have known about Piedmont Rails.Mark

Since I live in Salisbury and am a rail-ops volunteer at Spencer, I've been drooling over the prospect of anything with the Piedmont Div - even if it's just the southern end in GA.To hear that someone's working on the Danville District is even more exciting, since I'd be seeing some familiar turf... I know you're in the early stages with the Danville, but how far south are you going to go? Just to New Spencer (aka Linwood), Spencer, or Salisbury? What era are you shooting for - i.e. pre-Linwood, or Modern?-Eric ShockP.S. My prayers are with you if you're modeling New Spencer Yard... I know of someone working on Cincinnati, including Queensgate Yard - A hell of an undertaking.

Yes, the rumor is true. The Pocahontas District is nearing completion. I'm working on the next to last branch line. So only a little bit yet to scenic. Then I will have the tedious task of interactive objects and getting it ready for release. I'm thinking I should be very close to release by Christmas time. Here is a map, the sceniced portion is in red:

I'm planning to go as far south as Old Spencer Yard, although depending on the availability of buildings I may only go to Linwood. Yes, Linwood will be included and the nothern end of the Route will be Montview Yard in Lynchburg. The old virginian between Altavista and Roanoke will also be included, as will the old D&W line to Eden.

I'm still gathering info for the "Southern Tier" line here in New York... Once I have collected enough info I will begin in Binghampton and go east and west from there.

Good choice! Buffalo to Binghampton is very scenic and has a wide variety of terrain/trackage. I was thinking about doing this route, but I couldn't figure out the whole DEMing thing.- - Nick Wilson

Thank You, THank you, THank You !!!!!!!
Southern Tier !!!!!!! I originally come from Johnson City.
Maybe we could connect your route to the Bridge Line ? My only critique is that you drop the 'P' from Binghamton.>I'm still gathering info for the "Southern Tier" line here

I ALWAYS do that... It's liek a mental block!!!But ona side note I like about an hour North of Binghamton. So the reseach material is right at my front door I would like to go Port Jervis to Buffalo, Bridge line out of Binghamton, and the NYS&W Binghamton to Syracuse and Utica.

RE: Norfolk Southern Updates?? (Pokey, Piedmont Divisio

I'm still working on the former PRR Delmarva district (now NS Harrisonburg Division/ Dlemarva Secondary, New Castle Secondary, and Indian River Secondary, and Other short lines. Track is laid from Delmar, De. to Cape Charles Virginia (Easter Shore RR car float operation from the Delmarva Pennisula to Norfolk, Va.), and parts of the former BC&A/ B&E from Clairborne, Md on the Chesapeake bay to Ocean City, Md. on the Atlantic Ocean. I still have what seems to be years of work to do, but am happy with the progress so far.Tom MoyersLivercup2@comcast.net
