Colleagues, Cheering Section, Stockholdlers, etc. etc.Yesterday, the signal and signage gangs went to work putting in signals, speed limits, and mileposts on both the Milwaukee and NP lines in the RMD-4 sim. In addition, we are also installing flange oilers in the indicated spots on the profile, and touching up in general here and there.Tonight, the workers have presented management with some images of their work. We aren't quite sure how they got on the obs. car of the Olympian Hiawatha, but the conductor complained of a monumental headache when he was relieved in Spokane, and there was a decided goose egg under his cap????As has been pointed out in various publications, at least some of the NP route through St.Regis to Paradise had (and a few still remain) upper quadrant semaphore signals. As of 2004, I believe fewer than 1/2 dozen remain, and those are being removed as TCS goes in on the line. I state this because someone wishing to sim. Montana Rail Link on this line, or extend that portion of it, might also want to consider replacing the manual turnouts, at least some of them and the semaphores. I have centered this, and the RMD-2 sim. in the 1950/60 period. It can be done --- but ---- make a full backup first & proceed with some fear and trepidation.J. H. Sullivan

RE: RMD-4, Progress Report

1. It is not version 4, it will be version 1 of the 4th Subdivision of
the Milwaukee Road, Rocky Mtn. Division. There were 4 subdivisions
by the 50s.
1st: Harlowton to Three Forks
2nd: Three Forks to DeerLodge
3rd: DeerLodge to Alberton
4th: Alberton to AveryThere was no particular reason for the order I took except that someone else was already working on the 1st Sub.2. Not familiar with the signal mod. by MLT, is it in the library.
I am not using any payware material in the route.J. H. Sullivan, P.E.(answering from my son's pooter in Houston, back in Jacksonville by
the 29th or 30th depending on UP and CSX dispatching.

There is a freeware modified siglight.ace in the library which allows you to see signal indications for up to 2 km.RegardsYuri.

RE: RMD-4, Progress Report

My soft spot dates from June, 1946, when my grandmother, my mother, and I rode a DRAWING ROOM on the SOUIX from Chicago to Spencer, IA. In Kratvilles book "Steam & Steel Limiteds" he mentions this train as being very popular with cattlemen who were returning from Chicago after selling their stock. It must have had a long history, but that history ended in 1960. Fortunately I rode it a few more times in the 50s.J. H. Sullivan
