I am a little bit curious. I haven't seen any posts lately from the person who was doing the route between Tabernash and Craig, Colorado. This would be a great addition for us who have Rollins Pass/Moffat Sub.Bill Waterman

RE: What Happened To Tabernash to Craig?

Thanks for the interest.I've been working on other stuff, namely mtracks and smoother tracks. I've found these projects have been more satisfying, mostly because I've actually been able to finish them! But those also have been on hold the past month or two as well because of hectic work and family demands. For those that don't know, I actually do have track laid all the way from Tabernash to Craig, and about ten miles of the Axial branch. For more info you can do a search in this forum and you'll find several threads with pictures. Not sure what will ever happen to this route, as it has been sitting around with virtually no progress for about a year. My main reasons are just lack of time and waning interest, and also the daunting prospect of a route so huge. Also I'm curious to see what the new sim (TMTS) will be like, and if my time would be better served waiting for that to come out.I like reading and "lurking" on these forums, and I hope to get back into the swing of things in a month or two when my life settles back down a bit.If someone out there is intersted in finishing what I started, let me know. I have extrememly accurate track laid down on this route (grades are spot on), and DEMed mountains and distant mountains, and it would be neat to see it come together is some form.Mark

Curious: How long is it?As a general rule of thumb, laying the track is the by far the fastest part of building a route. If you can remember how long it took you to lay the track, you can guestimate that you're about 10% -20% done, time wise.

RE: What Happened To Tabernash to Craig?

Tsk, Tsk,Our Friend, Andre is only partly right. It took 6 weeks to lay all the track on the RMD-4, also DEMED from seamless data, and another 4 weeks to lay the roads, which I think are a more !@#$%^&* item than track. As you know, I avoid using add-on track. With R. Picardi's help, I created all the bridges from scratch, based on photographs and basic dimensions and then created each one to fit the terrain at it's location. It has since taken 5 months to do all of the tunnels and bridges, lotsa both, and another 2 months to detail all of the non-track related stuff. I did a full backup this past Monday, and got started on the track related items, sound regions, sources, etc. and I am also doing another 6-10 photorealistic flat people just for variety, including several female navy personnel (British), and enough guys to balance things out. I will be away from the pooter next week, visiting the grand-children, in Texas, and looking forward to that, as well as the ride on Amtrak to and from Houston. I expect to finish the RMD-4 late December, early January, and then I don't believe I will do another until the new sim comes out. I signed on with them to Beta test or whatever and maybe that will include the translator as well they talk about.J. H. Sullivan

RE: What Happened To Tabernash to Craig?

>I signed on with them to Beta testThat's a nice little tidbit of info, Jerry. I won't ask any details, but is this an arrangement that has come up recently, or have you been on their beta test list for a while? I'm hoping that it's recent, and it's a sign of some real progress on the new sim. In either case, I'm glad to hear you're on the tester list - you'll do a great job in giving the route builder's perspective. And enjoy the train ride and the holiday!Andy
