Colleagues,Tonight, the tree planters, masons, and smoothers planted a few million trees, removed some dirt from the track, erected a new bridge, and some retaining walls, and detailing has reached mile 53 from St.Regis, MT. Wallace is mile 56.8 and the end of track is about mile 57, so we are closing in on a completion of this route. STill to be done, of course is a gazillion switch lights, then signals, mileposts, etc. etc. etc. etc. There are not very many road crossings requiring flashers or gates, perhaps 30 in all, but there are many farm crossings that will get passive crossbucks and then of course the whistle posts. Wallace is a fairly large town with lots of residences. I particularly like to use L. Friddle's groups of homes with trees, they look good and you can populate areas quickly. We tested the route with the detouring NOrth Coast Limited (is that bridge at Hope going to burn forever-----???) and some images are attached. Completion date??, not sure yet, maybe by Christmas though.J. H. Sullivan
Jerry, the route is looking really nice. I especially like the mine dump at Mullan. In fact there is one dump that runs from the west end of town all the way to the east side of town. I believe that the mine at the east end of town is where all the tailings came from. It must be very deep, it is a shaft mine and appeared to still be in operation of sorts when we went through last March. At least there were several cars parked in the lot.Dick C.
Wow, that is one huge route (IMHO). Question for you though, is that catenary that is just "magically" suspended going to be there for the game too? I remember this being a question many posts back: if you could change from catenary to non-catenary inside a route. just curious..thanksMarkb
Unfortunately, there is no way to selectively turn off the catenary. If, however, you are only interested in simming the Northern Pacific (or MRL) portion of the sim., you could turn it off in the options panel.Perhaps at this time, I should provide some data concerning the relevancy of the various routes in this sim.1. The Milwaukee Road is the primary sim. and it existed from 1909 to 1980, with electrification in effect from about 1914 to 1973.2. The Wallace Branch of NP existed from 1890 to 1980, with this branch originally including the portion of the NP from Lothrop, opposite Alberton to St.Regis, which now exists as part of the MRL line, and the portion from St.Regis to Wallace, existedf from 1890 to 1980.3. NP (MRL) line from St.Regis to Paradise was completed about 1909 and is still in use. Semaphores are still in place at two or three locations on this line.J. H. Sullivan
