HiIf I'm the millionth person to ask this stupid question, send me my prize . But seriously how does one build a declining grade in the route editor? This is my first real life route. I've built 1.3 kms of straight track. I try to change the terrain below the track and all it does is put a mountain in the middle of my track, a pit to god knows where, or just slightly adjusts the terrain when I hold END and without the gradient I want (0.1 metre decline over 1.3 kms). Should I remove the track and change the grade from there? Thanks

Instead of trying to lay out a grade by shaping the terrain, try rotating the the track to your desired incline (1) and then hitting the 'y' key. This raises or lowers the surrounding terrain to be level with your track (2). Values of enbankment and cutting angles as well as the width of the right-of-way can be adjusted. This will work for positive and negative sloping grades.
I hope this helps and good luck
BTW that's a heck of a small grade! :Matt:UP La Grande Sub (Phase I)

RE: Building grades

Yup...that's the best way I've found. Only you want to make your grade transitions using a couple of short track pieces, each one with a slightly different grade until you get to the grade you want. Just add the short track piece (10 m works for me) and hit Y like Matt says, then go on to the next short piece. After you get to the grade you want, you can start using longer pieces again. Otherwise, if your grade change is large enough, you get a really funny ride when you run your first consist over an abrupt change. Good luck...Charlie B

RE: Building grades

Hi Matt !Creating gentle track gradient transitions having to use many shorter tracks has always niggled me, still looking a bit kinky !O.K. we can not use Dynamic tracks to bend them up or down as well as sideways but what about tracks designers like Okrasa creating track sections which curve gently up or down ?Just a thought ! Got a feeling that doing that would confuse the Tracks Database ? O t t o

RE: Building grades

I asked Okraso that same question ages ago, his answer was that MSTS will not allow it, and to best use the short tracks to make a steady change. Frank

RE: Building grades

I put this idea to Roman who seems to be capable of doing things with tracks others found difficult to achieve.Turns out that he is already working on straight tracks which curve gently upward and downward so that he can use them for Humps in his freight yards. I shall let you all know more as soon as I get some test tracks from him ! Take Care, O t t o.
