"RE: Route Geography Creator" LAST EDITED ON Aug-21-01 AT 00:37 AM (EST)Important note: the dataset that DeLomre (however you spell it) uses for its rail lines is grossly inaccurate. The newest version of the convert utility also contains the road dataset, with markers for all US highways that receive federal funds. That includes all Interstate and U.S. Routes, and almost all state highways.Try using terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com and the aerial photographs therein. Just search for the place you want to model and zoom in. You'll be able to see details right down to the garbage bins in the back yard of that house with the perfect view of the mainline. >Hi, wesdowns
Since you've put this assessment of Delorme data out there, could you explain? For instance, their topoquad product which used the USGS 24k dataset, do you mean to tell me they took a dataset as accurate as the USGS could make it and screwed it up for some reason!
I've compared their 24k data with other 24k sources and they line up. Their topousa product is 100/250k data and comparing that to someone else's 24k data is like comparing apples and oranges. It's as accurate as a scale of 100/250k will allow. The whole topic is moot until the skew in the geometry extractor is fixed, and of course, everybody's route will be out of kilter then.
