Colleagues,West of Drexel, which by the way, has been detailed very carefully by using information and photographs from several historians, lies a long 10 degree curve. Although I used generic and other's structures, I did create a crude substation object and a suspension foot bridge. Anyone that downloads this, should feel free to improve on my un-artistic efforts at structures, though I usually get the bridges done pretty well. This long 10 degree curve, curves more than 200 degrees around a neck of mountain in the center of a bend of the St.Regis River. If business had ever warranted, this was a prime candidate for a short tunnel through the neck. In the first image, the Olympian Hiawatha comes to a sign marking the start of a "Yard Cam" view. At many spots, I will simply provide a list of where these begin, if, for example, they start at a certain tunnel portal, bridge, etc., but where there is no obvious item to reference to, I will use this sign.A vulture flaps along over the river and is frightened by a large orange snake making its way around the curve - but he knows better than to think it is edible.J. RE: RMD-4, Big Curve reached near Mile 1728

Stuff like this is why MSTS is so great. To model a scene such as this in HO scale would take up so much room, since a 10-degree curve is a 79-inch radius. That's over 13 feet across! Not to mention the rest of the route. Kudos Jerry, on persevering with the RE and realizing such a great route.Cheers,
Mark

Thanks Mark for the Kudus. You are quite right. I use a minimum radius of 28" on my HO layout mainline, and to do that, I have a place where the tracks are at different elevations just so one can tuck under the other, the inside dimension of the room being only about 10.5' in width. The layout is a folded dogbone, set up mainly to handle passenger trains - my long time favorite. I have an old station that is used for the era I usually model, but I can quickly update it to the present by tucking the old stuff into the staging yard, replacing the depot with a "AMSHACK" and then having just one passenger train - a 10 car SuperLiner with two Athearn Genesis units.28" translates into about a 25 degree curve which is beyond the limits for real world long passenger cars.J. Mark, its selective compression! its how i came up with this idea for a 10x17 HO scale RMD route a while back, i tried to add all the different features that i liked into one and made (or tried to) make it easy and realistic to acomplish
