XOVER Question – image 1

The track section A1tpnt10dlftmnls.s can be changed to 3 different
configurations for use.

The XOVER's I see are no greater than 90 degrees is there a variable
section that can be taken beyond 90 degrees??I will have numerous crossings of one railroad over another's on the layout I am starting to work on; this particular one is 108 degrees; consisting of two tracks crossing two tracks..Thanks in advance,Warren M.

XOVER Question – image 2

Normally on a Double track XOVER i would use the same track section 2 times.. as in 2 for both sections. But other then that.. i have never seen a 108 degree track.. what do they look like in real life?

XOVER Question – image 3

Picture in your mind the Michigan Central/NYC with a East & West bound main and it intersects the Indiana Harbor Belt North and South mains. That intersection in MSTS is referred to as a XOVER; it is not a crossover but 2 different railroads chossing each other's rails to get to the other side.. Warren M.

Hmmm, that seems logical!

Technically there is no crossover greater than 90 degrees. If you think about the nature of a crossover there are two angles involved, and they use the lesser of the two, so a "108 degree" crossover would have 108 degrees for the large angle and 72 degrees for the small angle, and would actually be called a 72 degree crossover.XOVER Question – image 4Default only comes in 2 1/2 and 5 degree crossovers (good example here, you wouldn't call a 5 degree crossover a "175 degree" crossover even tho one of the angles IS 175 degrees!), I think Xtracks has more, but I doubt it has exactly 72 degrees. Just so you know, you can lay one track across another at any angle and it will work;XOVER Question – image 5Except that you can't signal it.

XOVER Question – image 6

If you visit the websitehttp://users.adelphia.net/~edportzline/glossary.htm Under the letter 'C'You find Crossing 1) A length of track that carries one track across another, but
does not allow trains to move from one track to another. 2) where a track and a road cross each other at the same level. Crossover A combination of two switches connecting two adjacent tracks.
When lined, the switch combination allows movements to cross from
one track to the other. I need to have signals to control the intersections; if it was a crossover I was dealing with I wouldn't have posted the question. Being as I invested in the really great book by Michael Vone..Thanks for your reply though..Warren M.

DUH!

Yeah, you're right. I've been using "crossover" as opposed to "crossing" as in "grade crossing", but that terminology is correct. I'm kinda lost here tho, you talking about a double slip switch?XOVER Question – image 7

XOVER Question – image 8

Best way to see what we have to use is to go into RE and find a piece of free route space to place objects on to look at; which of course you don't want to save any changes to the terrain when you close RE...And go to anyone of these objects under track sectionsA1tXover26d.s
A1tXover32d.s
A1tXover45d.s
A1tXover56d.s
a1txover5d.s
A1tXover62d.s
A1tXover6d.s
A1tXover79d.s
A1tXover90d.sThere are no SWITCHES involved it is a railroad that wants to get to the otherside of someone else's railroad LINE so they can continue to there destination and not have to put a END OF TRACK -- BUFFER -- BUMPER when they come up to someone elses railroad..Warren M.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-10-04 AT 09:08 AM (EDT)

Hi Warren, got your mail but I think an answer here serves the community better.
Like sniper says there is no such thing as 108 degree crossing because if you look at it from the other track you will see it is a 72 degree crossing. Closest thing in the XTracks package would be the 79 degree crossing.
If this still is not the answer you're looking for could you please provide a picture of what you are trying to tell us?ps any track section is adjustable with the 'T' key, crossings also.

If all goes correctly you will see some green marker dots in this picture of where the New York Central/Michigan Central tracks once laid running East and West. The North-South Rails are still in place..41693736063eb0d8.jpgPerhaps my thinking is incorrect of a straight track section equaling and angle of 180 degrees and if you have a 72 degree crossing the other end will only be 90-72=18 degrees.Warren M.

XOVER Question – image 13

Well it is time for me to fess up and tell you that being 66 I have trouble remembering what I had for supper yesterday..I am a high school dropout with a GED.So your answer seems to be a true statement though I can't say I remember that but it sounds logical. My problem with teh XOVER though has 4 quadrants to consider for a total of 360 degrees being as you have 2 lines crossing perpendicular to one another...So what is your point have to do with my question??Though I dropped out of HS and went into the military -- I later became a Journeymen Industrial Electrician and then a Journeyman Electronic Specialist in Logic circuitry -- but I am a HIGH SCHOOL DROP OUT so go easy on me please..Thanks for your reply...Warren M.

XOVER Question – image 14

It's abit difficult to make out of the picture but that crossing look close to 60 degrees.
School might be a long time ago, just remember that the corners in a square are 90 degrees.
Two tracks intersecting squarely are at 90 degrees to each other.
A 180 degree turn you will be facing the way you came.
360 degree is a complete circle.

XOVER Question – image 16

I have a little route of approx 15 miles by 15 miles so I found a bare spot <grin> and proceeded to lay some track.I have one with the green earth and one that I took away with a WHITE FILL operation to eliminate using all that green ink should you want
to print out and measure angles on paper..I also put an Xover in each of the four quadrants with the A1t NBR for comparison..41698af602ca015a.jpg,41698b1d032d58e2.jpgThe angle of the track is close to what I need but not exact..Warren M.

XOVER Question – image 20

Mpw that I have seen the error in my thinking and using a A1tXover79d.s turned 180 degrees and placed permanent. I have 3 more to gang to that one turning them 180 degrees before making them permanent.. But alas I can't get any movement with F4 or F3 when I put another one on to the first A1tXover79d.s ???Is this another case of PEBKAC???Thanks in advance,Warren M.

RE: XOVER Question

By "can't get any movement with F4 or F3" I assume you mean when you place it it's "snapping" onto the other section? That can be cured by temporarily connecting a 100 meter straight section to the ends of the track it's snapping to, so you can place and align it next to the other piece. I'm also a HS dropout with a GED, so I'm having a hard time visualising what you're trying to do. More pictures?

RE: XOVER Question

XOVER Question – image 21

Well as I said above this new question I was wrong in my thinking about the Xover's right after I posted the one with the WHITE background up above...i am using a A1tXover79d.s which I rotate 190 degrees for the
two mains of the Indiana Harbor Belt that run 10 degrees east of DUE NORTH to 10 degrees West of DUE SOUTH (170 degrees) and gives me a due East and West rail Crossing for two Mains New York Central/Michigan Central passenger trains being pulled by some of New York Central's finest Steam Locomotives. I think I tried a A1t100mstrt.s and still couldn't turn the darn thing the 2nd one I put on aligns it self so don't have to rotate it. The third one is the one that won't budge -- my last attempt was with some pieces the 2nd one from the top which I think is a A1t0_3mstrt.s that I used as a buffer I even tried a piece of Dynamic Track zeroed then put my next A1tXover79d.s then removed or deleted the Dynamic Section tried to rotate before deleting and then after and it wouldn't turn or slide...So I am at the point where I can have one North - South Main and 2 Mains running East - West -- until I can figure out how to get 2 more
A1tXover79d.s on the EAST side of the existing 2 for a South Bound Main on the IHB... Which right after the Crossing has a switch to take traffic around the round house and to the yards where on the east end of them are the North and South Humps...Thanks for your replayWarren M.

RE: XOVER Question

XOVER Question – image 22

Not sure but it sounds like you yet have to discover the 'T' key.
Put the crossing in, it will snap to the track already in place.
While still selected press 'T' on your keyboard one or more times until the crossing is facing the way you want.
When a track has snapped to another track section you will not be able to move it like you can move scenery items.A single east-west line crossing a dual north-south line oriented 10 degrees east it sounds like the 79 degree crossing will serve you well. Get the first crossing in and then snap on the others and use the 'T' key. It might look like nothing happens the first time you press 'T' but keep at it cause the crossing turned 180 degrees the first time which is hard to see.

Thanks for the picture!!I sat here lost in the 50's looking at your picture wondering if I have enough time left on earth to see buildings on my route -- LOL...I haven't mapped out yet how many crossings I have on my route but being located in the North West Corner of Indiana; numerous railroads passed through on there way to and from Chicago. Thanks again..Warren M.
