Sniper, I went into the RE yesterday, started at one end of the line and worked my way thru all of tracks. I deleted all signals and other interactive objects.I think I may have saved the MBTA by doing that. Now all I have to do is replace lost tracks which encompasses about 2 to 3 miles. It shouldn't be too difficult as they are mostly straight sections.I also have to replace all the scenery along these same tracks. This shouldn't too big a deal.I am not giving up yet.Joe simerjoePS Thanks for all your advice.
Yeah, that's why they always say finish trackwork and then don't change it. Mike Vone recommends doing daily TDB rebuilds to check the health of the trackwork, but my experience has been that once you add interactive track objects your days of TDB rebuilds are over. So it's best to do whatever you're going to do to the track and then leave it alone after that. Static scenery objects are okay, since the only file they show up in is the .w file, but interactive objects are written to the .w and the .tdb and .tit, and the info in all three files has to match exactly. When you get into grade crossings it gets worse, a grade crossing is in the .w, .tdb, .tit, .rdb, and .rit files, five files altogether.I add bridges and buildings as I lay track, since often you need to adjust the track to fit the buildings and bridges, but leave signals and siding markers for last. Since bridges and buildings are static objects they don't affect the TDB.For backups, I copy the entire \portogden9 folder to a backup, then rename it \backup\portogden9821, \backup\portogden9822, \backup\portogden9823, and so on. Every week or so I go thru the backup folder and delete all the recent even numbers or all the odd numbers, saving at least one backup per week going back about four weeks or so. That way I get a "stealth" bug I got something to go back to. The current version of PO&N 9 in the file library was not a continuation of PO&N 8, since PO&N 8 had a stealth bug in it where I couldn't select and delete the yard ladders in Anderson, and it wouldn't do a TDB rebuild. So I started with the earliest backup of PO&N 7 (which was nothing more than PO&N 6 with all the signals stripped out) and built on that for version 9.
Sniper,I deleted the MBTA.tdb files in my route folder. I also deleted all the BK files. When I do a Rebuild Track Data base, it runs thru quite a bit of the route but comes up with this error message. What am i doing wrong and what and how should I do it?Thanks in advance. Joe simerjoe
The dreaded vector-no vector!Welcome to Hell, Joe, Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here.Personally I've never tried this, since I always had a recent backup to restore, but many people have reported success with this method.First thing is to find the problem tile, when the message pops up look at the camera window, that will tell you the world file number; Then go into the world folder and open that .w file in wordpad, EDIT, FIND "Matrix3x3".Here's what a good track object datablock looks like;TrackObj ( UiD ( 5 ) SectionIdx ( 0 ) Elevation ( 0 ) CollideFlags ( 535 ) FileName ( A1t10mstrt.s ) StaticFlags ( 00200180 ) Position ( 258.825 39.0052 219.524 ) QDirection ( 0 -1 0 6.64751e-005 ) VDbId ( 4294967294 ) StaticDetailLevel ( 0 ) )And this is an example of one that gives the vector-no vector error:TrackObj ( UiD ( 6 ) SectionIdx ( 0 ) Elevation ( 0 ) CollideFlags ( 535 ) FileName ( A1t10mstrt.s ) StaticFlags ( 00200180 ) Position ( 258.826 39.0052 209.524 ) matrix3x3 ( 0 -1 0 6.64751e-005 ) VDbId ( 4294967294 ) StaticDetailLevel ( 0 ) )If you find one like that delete the whole datablock. A word about datablocks, when you manually delete a datablock you need to get the whole thing, the opening line for these is "TrackObj (" and the closing is the single parenthesis ")", so you need to delete everything including TrackObj and the closing ")".Save the .w file, exit, then delete .tdb and .tit and try the rebuild again.
Your last response was very detailed and a lot of work went into it. I did everything you suggested to the letter. Un fortunately, when I rebuilt the track data base, again I got the same error message.I really appreciate your efforts in solving my problem.Another thing I'm doing is reselecting all the tracks from start point "A" to end point "B" which causes the blue poles to appear at the end of this section. When I click that same section another blue point appears ot the beginning of the next track section. I select the next track section and reclick it again and the blue point appears at the end of the next section and so on and so on. This seems to work for rebuilding the whold route but very tedious. It's like laying tracks all over again.I'm gonna do what I have to do to make this route suucessful again. What do you think? Joe simerjoe
Joe, I ended up having to do that two different times for almost half of the 350 miles of my route, but ended up working fairly well. I do have a couple of glitches occasionally when running extremely long trains, where MSTS seems to lose track of itself on either end of where I did this, but by putting an extra speed limit sign and an extra 'default' sound region, it has pretty well taken care of it. I think if I had been able to get a complete clean rebuild, it may not have been there, but you know how that goes. That has been the only problem I have had with it since doing the rebuilds before V2, so you should end out with it okay. Of course, no predictions for MSTS .. {EDIT}btw, make sure and adjust any ends while you are doing this as I had a couple (on a grade) float up just enough to make a rude bump when going over them. Haven't had the 'heart' to try and fix them .. just going to put a slow order there!RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com
Actually the first thing to do is confirm you have the right tile. Move that one .w file out of the world folder and try the rebuild, if it completes succesfully then you'll know for sure it's that one .w file. After that you can try deleting a bunch of datablocks from that .w file, or if all else fails you'll only have to relay track on that one tile.
Well all the tracks have been rebuilt and everything is back to normal again. I'll be laying more tracks then go on to put back all the interactive scenery that was lost.I sure would like to know how to lay all the track to create a route with a specific number of miles without putting in mile posts as you go.Joe simerjoe
