Aug-19-01, 07:02 PM (EST) "Have a question" I've skinned a few cars and they turned out good, I tried skinning an engine, not so good. I wanna try a route, just a few questions that I can't find in any help file and haven't really seen on here. When I go through and do the Route Geometry Extractor thing and then when I go to edit route I get nothing but white. Ok, I saw another post here where someone told the guy that he had to select his files and something called a quad tree. Now my questions are, I've tried EVERYTHING but I can't seem to select tiles, much less find out where I'm supposed to select tiles. And whats a quad tree, I click new quad tree and nothing happens. Someone should really make a small tutorial on route building. I can do it, I just need the basics to start. I need to know how and where to select my tiles, how to apply them. And somebody explain just a little about a quad tree and how to get it and what it does. Nobody likes to reply to these posts because I have 3DS Max and Photoshop 6 and after a while of seeing the same questions over and over you get tired of answering them, I know all about this. So if somebody replys and helps me then I'll try to turn out some good routes, if not then I'll stick to skinning and trying to model. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 10:33 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Have a question" Lawrence is right. The help file is good. If you look in the archives there's a file called toolhelp.zip which the person took the help files and loaded them into Word format. Makes it a bit easier. I was thinking someone had done a tutorial on how to extract a route but if they did, I can't find it in my own archives. Anyway, extracting a route is really easy. And for what you get it's a good question to ask why go through all you do just to get flat green terrain as far as the eye can see. But that is what you will get so don't be alarmed. It's one of the last steps you gotta do but make sure you do pick a start tile. There's only been a million posts on here about someone seeing nothing but white. Good luck and don't hesitate to keep asking. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 10:53 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Have a question" I must have overlooked it somehow, anyway all thats fixed now. Only on other problem. Thats terrain editing. How do you guys acuratly line up your hill and stuff to match each other. Is it aggravating or is there an easy way to do it? I'm wanting to make a single track between 2 small hills with 2 bridges overhead, rail and road brigde. The bridges are only about 35ft from the track bed so I'll need to touch up on my terrain editing. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 10:26 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Have a question" Go to wireframe mode by pressing the W key. Grab a smaller section of terrain and start raising. You'll see the triangles start to rise and your track is still visible so you can get an approximation in lining up hills. Another way to be a little more exact is to use road or track pieces and rotate them upwards/downwards and press the y key. You can adjust the amount of slope by changing the embankment value too. It's in one of them little floating boxes but I can't recall the name offhand. Plus you can change how much is affected by the 'y' press by changing it from the default of 18 feet to something greater or less. When forging new terrain I change it to 50. It's slow going this way but you can get some nice results. There's also the F for flattening terrain. Makes a nice blend between uneven slopes. Just remember this.. pressing the F key harder and harder won't make this affect work any faster. But again, you can change the embankment value to affect the blending action.
