Aug-19-01, 06:32 PM (EST) "Interesting Observations, including a picture!" Today, I was driving the route I am creating between Everett and Monroe, Washington. This is the eastern-most part of the Marias route (I believe), with mileposts in the neighborhood of 1770.Anyway, I found the below picture, which I assume is an automatic switch. First I have ever seen.
The second observation was regarding a "railroad grade" which showed up with Wes' Convert3 program. This particular grade I didn't remember seeing it before. Since it was on the route I was driving, I decided to take a look-see.Sure enough, there it was. And after seeing it, I do remember its existence--of course, that was about 30+ years ago. The below picture was taken out of the car's window, therefore you see a glare in the right side.
Third and last observation, I was surprised to see the speed limit for passenger trains:

If your area of the world is covered there, I've found nothing better than a cab ride to tell you what scenery you'll need to place. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 10:05 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Interesting Observations, including a picture!" Oh I have found terraserver. Actually, I prefer topozone.com. For some reason, I cannot get the graphics to load at terrasserver. This is with IE 5.5. At work, with IE 5.1?, I can. Here at home with Netscape 4.7 I can. But not IE 5.5. Have not found another site where the graphics do not load in.I have found, with using Netscape 4.7, that terraserver gives just a whisker better detail in their topo maps. Can't see how, but when you go to the finest resolution, they are just a bit better than topozone. I do, however, use topozone for the "bigger" picture.I wouldn't mind a cab ride, but that will never happen. Have a friend who jumps freights. But my wife would be pretty unhappy if I did that.I have, however, grown up in this area. Was gone for several years and now am back. I know the terrain pretty well. So, it shouldn't be to hard to model.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
