Aug-19-01, 06:09 PM (EST) "mile posts" This may be a dumb question, but the route I am modeling used mile posts every mile, What is the best way to measure off a mile? also some one said that the end key would show the grade, how do you get this to work?

Aug-19-01, 08:47 PM (EST) 1. "RE: mile posts" In route editor-place a signal somwhere down the line.
In Train sim- use the track display or whatever it is called. (F4) This will tell you how far until next signal- while driving a train of course. Using the heads up display (0) I think, jot down the coordinates- Lat. and Lon. at each "mile to:" Then go back to route editor and place mileposts. Don't go nuts with accuracy. Mile posts are used for reference only. Like "My hat flew uot the window near milepost 64". Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 06:20 AM (EST) 3. "Hehe" WEll, my sanity flew out the window at about milepost 0.5..... Seriously, I suppose the same can be done with station platforms (the MSTS object, not the physical stations) since TS will also give you the distance "to" them. Go back and eliminate the platform, replace w/ approximate MP. Remember you cant set speed limits with them, you need a seperate speed limit object.
Good Luck! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 10:18 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Hehe" Also, I guess you can also add the track sctions- 250m + 10m +500m and so on.Whatever works. Using the platforms will mean that you have to set up an activity, right? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 11:40 PM (EST) 2. "RE: mile posts" The way I've been measuring miles in the sim is by going approximately 60mph, meaning for every minute I travel, I go one mile. Since it isn't always easy to be travelling 60mph, I've been going 30mph, and 2 minutes of travel equals a mile. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case in the sim. I've found that the miles are "long" between Whitfish and Columbia Falls (on the Marias Pass route) so I adjusted the speed to 62mph to make it work out to known mile markers, based on the BNSF timetable. After Columbia Falls, going east, the miles are "short", and 27mph will almost make it work out to Essex. From there, I had to fudge some numbers, but 27mph almost worked OK to Glacier Park. I just finished Glacier Park to Cut Bank, and 27mph came up short, so I'm going to try Glacier Park to Cut Bank at 28mph and see if that's better. Anyway, as the previous post said, it's just a reference. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 09:10 PM (EST) 5. "RE: mile posts" I keep my sanity by approximating a lot. I'm old enough that I never heard the word "metric" until I was out of high school, so I just see meters, think yards, close enough for rock 'n roll. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
