Aug-19-01, 05:10 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Track database error" That's the error I get after rebuilding the DB. Of course then the editor craters on me and offers to phone home to Microsoft. The ugly side of this is that I just discovered the error after laving 100 linear miles of track, and it looks like whatever it is happened long enough ago that my 4 backups seem to be corrupted as well. Aug-19-01, 10:39 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Track database error" Hmmm... this just made me think of something... if I'm not mistaken... MSTS does not create every tile right off the bat in the world folder. Maybe a solution would be to remove all your files in the world folder to another place somewhere on the hard disk. Then bring back the files slowly and you might just find the corrupt tile if that's what's giving you that error. I'm guessing of course, but it might help. I've often wondered what would happen if I just deleted one tile in my route. I have a feelin' everything would come up alright but that one tile would be blank. Not sure though. But if it does work, sure is alot better than rebuilding the whole route. Hope this helps. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 00:07 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Track database error" See "flying geeps" in the archives. deleting the \world tiles loses the textures for all the objects, including the track. I think everything is still there, just invisible. The TRACK database is unaffected, tho, you can drive over the invisible track, throw switches, and as the picture shows cross invisible bridges. The one thing that got me on the advanced rebuild thing was that it takes a shortcut if you offer it one. Delete or move both the .tdb file and any .bk files and run the rebuild. This SHOULD force the editor to visit every tile and actually do what it's supposed to instead of cheating and copying the information from a corrupted file. Aug-20-01, 10:19 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Track database error" I remember the flying Geeps post. I thought that was pretty cool. I wondered if a loop de loop could be made...It would be interesting then to know exactly where the track database is at then. I never thought to look for it cause I thought it was included in the world tiles. But now that you mention it when my Number 11 crashed, and I did the rebuild, the path was still there, just invisible.Should be interesting to see what happens next. Aug-20-01, 10:40 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Track database error" I did all of that, and it's in the database rebuilt when I get the message. Doesn't seem to affect operations anywhere else. it just crashes when I try to switch to any spur in a particular location. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 12:17 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Track database error" I had a some bugs in the Coal City quad in the first version of Port Ogden and Northern that I couldn't find in a week of trying, and since it wasn't a very good section anyway, I just looked at the texture editing grid, then deleted all the track crossing the blue tile boundary. In the lower part of the camera window is an X and Y coordinate for the tile you're over, and the corresponding numbers are in both the \world directory and displayed after the LAT/LONG coordinates in the geo extractor. I haven't tried merely deleting just the files for the tile I want to get rid of, because I suspect it's referenced in those mysterious files in the \TD folder, but what I did was right click on the tile in the extractor, select toggle populated state, then delete tile. Then I had to manually delete the associated \world and \tiles for that tile, cuz for some reason the extractor will ADD the files when you expand, but doesn't delete them anywhere except in that quad tree file, the exact location of which is in a vault at area 51 HQ. If you have signals and sound regions you'll have to delete those too, altho you could wait until you get the error messages to see which ones you need to do. It saved me a lot of time, because two of the quads on that route had a lot of work in them which I didn't want to do over!
