Aug-19-01, 02:22 PM (EST) "RGE?!" I hate the route geomitry extracter. I want to make a fictional route, and I can't get RGE to do what it's supposed to do, which is to make me some flat terrian to lay rails on. I've tied MS's help files, they stink (like most other MS help files), and I need a tutorial on how to do this! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 03:09 PM (EST) 1. "RE: RGE?!" Wait a sec! That's all the route extractor does, is create flat terrain. Are you seeing a bunch of white? If so, you need to go back to the route extractor and choose a start tile. Then save again and remember to save the quad file again. That's gotta be what's going wrong. Good thing you want flat terrain... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 05:19 PM (EST) 3. "RE: RGE?!" I would encourage you to calm down a bit. Since the only way you can create a foundation for a route is through the RGE, you can't hate it too much! This is what I did. I just chose someplace arbitrarily, went through the steps, and created the quad. If you hate it too much, you will never accomplish what you want! Aug-19-01, 05:25 PM (EST) 4. "RE: RGE?!" I still hate it, but I got it to do what I want it to do. now I'm working in the route editor, which is not much better. Don't you just love Microsoft? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 05:42 PM (EST) 5. "RE: RGE?!" Actually, yes I do appreciate them and their products. Does that mean that I have blinders on and don't see the bugs/problems? Not at all. I just know how to work around them. For the most part, a simple reboot takes care of many problems. My job is MS Word support and VBA development. One of the first things I ask when contacted about a problem is if the person has rebooted the computer and tried again. If not, I counsel them to do just that, and call me back. Most of the time I never get a repeat call. But it appears that what most people forget is an adage from 10 years ago about computer programs: Never buy a software that ends in ".0". In other words, be cautious of any n.0 versions as they are usually major rewrites. Well, with MSTS, we have not only that, but it is version 1! Sure there are problems, but nothing insurmountable.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 06:27 AM (EST) 7. "RE: RGE?!" Well I'll post a .wav file, if I can enlist a local fat woman to let one go for me....One of the reasons this forum exists is for people to share thier frustrations as well as successes. We're not whining - we're trying to make MSTS do what MS SAID it was going to do! If you want to read posts where people dont complain, I suggest one of the porno sites that have 'true' stories posted. I'd be surprised to find someone 'whining' there, or saying they 'hate' what's happening. LOL Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-20-01, 10:09 AM (EST) 8. "RE: RGE?!" You'll get used to the route editor. It's not bad. In fact it's pretty good. Just keep asking, reading, go through the Utilities and Misc section and you'll do well. If you watch you'll see alot of the same questions being asked over and over again. Nothing wrong with that mind you, but so many of the answers are here in this forum. So take heart. Just like you thought you'd never get through the extractor, now you're in the route editor. Soon you'll be making your own activity editor. Which I might add, before you go asking us why you can't see your route in the game screen, you have to create an activity first! Aug-20-01, 10:17 AM (EST) 9. "RE: RGE?!" LAST EDITED ON Aug-20-01 AT 10:17 AM (EST)We all feel your pain. But in a week you will be laying track at an astounding rate and putting in scenary with ease. The more you use it, the more sense it makes. Still don't agree with some things, but I've learned to accept them and move on. Plus, with the third part help from John, Wesdowns and Jim, we know have the tools to make better looking routes than Kuju did!David Klemm
