Most German and Austrian Routes have a 6.2 metres high overhead wire, but the WUPPER EXPRESS' is 6 metres. Most of the E-Rolling Stock seems to cater for the 6.2 metres overhead.I have been spending a lot of time creating copies of certain trainsets so that their Pantos can be used for either Overhead Wire height and also done that for other guys. Then I thought why not SCALE the WUPPER Gantries to make them higher and set the .trk file Overhead Wire to 6.2 metres also. Before I spend more time doing that, can anybody see any reason why doing this would not be practical ? Don't think that there are any tunnels, etc, to get in the way of Pantos set to 6.2 metres O/H.Thanks for your advice, O t t o.
Probably not a problem for foreign lines, but here in the US, they are often a bit higher. The standard height for the Milwaukee Road was 24 ft., but in tunnels it is as low as 21 ft. originally, and could also have been as high as perhaps 26'. This was not the current constant tension catenary that is popular, but was rather sort of a slack catenary. It was also unique in that most of it was supported on wooden, usually cedar, poles. Those who have downloaded the RMD-2 (and who eventually download the RMD-4) will note that there appears to be a doubled post at the bottom. This was because, after 20 years or so, the lower end of the untreated cedar pole had become termite fodder, so a treated stub was sunk next to it, and the remainder of the support was bolted, lashed, or whatever, to this stump. Most of my catenary was done by Tim Muir, who graciously gave me the TSM files as well, so that I could adjust the lateral spacing as required for yards etc.J. Answering my own question I found that the Shape File Manager's SCALE y-axis adjusted by 1.03 makes the Gantries taller to exactly match the Overhead Wire, which was raised from 6 to 6.2 metres, without any visible detrimental effects.More work, but the benefit will be that now I can run all European 6.2 Pantos E-Rolling stock on the WUPPER EXPRESS and not just the ones I lowered the Pantos on, easily restored from the originals ! But checking that the Overhead Wire is properly attached to the gantry support arms with the Outside views I realised that holding down the HOME key at the same time as an Arrow key slows down the Camera like in the RE, I was not aware of ! O t t o
Good day, Otto, HOME key ? Do you mean Ctrl ?If you have redone gantries to 6.2 m for Wupper, may I suggest you quickly contact the authors (Ralf Kölsche & Jürgen Wolfersheim), as Wuppex8 should be close to completion. As a matter of fact, german payware guys have agreed to all use 6.2m (probably the only thing they ever agreed on )So stock is also adapted to this height.Kai Schadeberg's freeware gantry set GTR is also at 6.2m, i am just electrifying HOR-GEO with it.Love and Peace
Hi Moritz !Yes, I immediately E-Mailed Ralf as soon as I realised that doing this is a feasible solution to convert the WUPPER EXPRESS to 6.2 metres Overhead Wire height.Just a case of SCALEing the height all the items listed in the Gantry.dat, I am doing further tests on right now. They are enjoying the Summer over there and working on the WUPPER is not very high on their list of priorities. Release expected late September I think !Ralf also indicated that he might include Roman's Y-Tracks Switches in the WUPPER EXPRESS 9, due out early next year. Now that would be some improvement !!! I meant the Home key, held down at the same time as one of the Cursor Pad Arrow keys slows down the movement of the Camera the same way as it does in the RE.Take Care, O t t o.

Hi Moritz !Did all the WUPPER Gantries listed in it's Gantry.dat and if you got the WUPPER EXPRESS 8 and would like to check the Overhead is attaching to them more or less accurately, it's a long Route , then you can download the Gantry Shapes from: www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/downloads/wupper-gantries.zip Of course you will Back-Up your WUPPER SHAPES folder first and set the .trk OverheadWireHeight ( 6.2 ).Not all masts have been positioned perfectly in the first place but if you find more than one example of the same type not having it's wire support arm close enough to the Overhead then please note the Co-ords of that location so that I can check it and E-Mail me using the "Click to E-Mail" Icon" above.Take Care, O t t o.P.S.: As Bob pointed out it is of course the END key which together with the Arrow keys slows down the outside views Camera !
