Anyone know of a way to have agricultural fields that follow the contours of the terrain? I know there are cornfield shape files in the library, but these only work well with totally flat terrain. Has anyone tried to find a way to have fields that follow the contours of the terrain the way a forest object does?
You might want to search for some of the discussions of forest objects that ran a while back - probably a year or so ago. You could modify a forest object, but I don't think you'd be able to get nice, neat rows. The discussions gave all the deep dark secrets of forest objects, so there might be something in there that will help out. But the basic answer is no, there hasn't been anything created like that yet (at least that I'm aware of).Andy
Guess I could just set my route at permanent springtime before the crops start shooting up out of the ground. . . I'm not a winter person, so I have never messed around much with winter scenarios. The more limitations I keep running into with MSTS makes me want to just give up and abandon any idea of creating a route.I wonder if Trainz users are so hamstrung by limitations.
I can't say for sure about Trainz, but the screenshots I've seen don't indicate that things like corn rows are any simpler there than in MSTS. There are definitely limitations, and route building isn't something that's either simple or quick. I liken it to model railroad layout construction. It takes a lot of time to do, and even then, you can't include everything. The key thing is to do what you enjoy. If route building gets to be a PITA, then it's not worth spending your hobby time on it. For me, it can get tedious and frustrating, but it's worth it in the end. I'd encourage you to keep at it for a while, but like I said, it's got to be enjoyable in the long run - that's the whole point!Andy
I guess it depends on the level of detail you need. There are several farm field ace files in Terrtex folders. I modified these to suit my needs.the first one is the standard ace file, the second is the one I made. You can cut and paste them to make a wide variety of different types of farm land.Chris
