Colleagues,I got to complement oldedaddy from Alsace quite a bit on this sim. It is really as real as it gets, and he has done a superb job of precise placement of each item. Further the water is something else, I got to use it on my next sim some way or another. I attach two shots taken as the 1949 Empire Builder, westbound, comes to the North Portal (railroad East). Now the problem is, that this tunnel was completed around 1972 or so, and was never used by the real Empire Builder. Construction started about the same time that BN was formed give or a take a year. Originally, it's design called for a tunnel slighntly longer than the 7.79 mile Cascade Tunnel, but in the end, it is slightly shorter, about 7.6 miles. This made it the 2nd longest tunnel in North America at the time. The CP Mt.Rogers Tunnel, far exceeds either the Cascade or the Flathead in length, but for about 14 years or so, BN owned the longest & 2nd Longest. The new deviation started at Stryker, MT and ended near Libby, MT, and although this is a east-west mainline, the tunnel is very nearly on a north-south heading.OldeDaddy's precision is unique, the heading of this tunnel is right on the money.J.
