Colleagues,The Foreman of the bridge gang has told the carpenters that they don't get to go into Taft until the snowshed is finished. This caused a near riot, but the work is now progressing at a feverish pace. Some additional supports will be required under the right end of the long beams, and the blue item is a template that gets deleted before final assembly. This shed was a monumental one for the end of a tunnel, measuring 270' in length (consulted my notes and realized I put a typo on the image). The west portal of tunnel 20 has a 90ft. one, and there are several others that are not so big further down the west slope. None that I know of other than this one, on the east slope. The EAst Portal of tunnel 20, as you will find, when you download this sim, enters the ridge at the confluence of three ravines, each of which had some spring runoff, but no permanent water flow, and lots of snow in winter which was prone to slide. Thus the east portal shed extended from one side of the entering cut to the other and out from the tunnel 270' as mentioned. The west slope of the Bitteroots was lush with trees etc., because of much heavier rainfall than the east slope & beyond which tended to be rather arid.By the way, I just got my copy of "Cascade Crossing" by Maple Leaf. It is awesome. If you like mountain railroads, this is one you need.J. H. Sullivan
