Colleagues,The gang responsible for installing the informational signs, i.e. dummys, there will also be similar items entered as "stations" and "sidings" has reached the end of the sim. at the west end of Avery. The attached image tells it all. Now, we will return to Cyr, and start working our way west adjusting textures, and adding whatever seems appropriate. Alberton was completed last night by changing the trees along Railroad Ave. to Cottonwoods.J. H. Sullivan

RE: RMD-4, Signage gang reaches Avery

Joerg,Actually the real electrification ended a couple hundred feet east (further away in image) than the switch, about where the yard tracks ended. The actual main track extends two additional miles so operational types can bring a train in under steam or diesel, and then change at this point, as was actually done, to electric for the run to Alberton (and on to Harlowton, a total distance of 440 miles). I will only do rudimentary scenery beyond this point, as I have already done for the roughly 4 miles east of Alberton that the line extends. Now here is some more. The first winter was absolutely ungodly, and so the new railroad (i.e. in 1909) had to go back and construct some protection. Hence the bridge gang is back at work at the east portal of the summit tunnel, and in addition, the Mechanical Department acquired a rotary plow. This plow is in the library as an operational item, but I have included it as a static item in the sim. Then to make matters worse, in the late summer of 1910, one of the worst forest fires in history burned over nearly a million acres of western Montana & Eastern Idaho, destroying a number of timber trestles that had not yet been filled or converted to steel, and damaged some of the steel trestles. For years afterward, the landscape around here was as bare as the moon.J. H. Sullivan

RE: RMD-4, Signage gang reaches Avery

They just come to an end, zip, no more track, stop or wreck----.However, I do use the same markers when I create adjoining routes, and where there is a yard, like at Avery, I reuse the 3 or 4 tiles the yard occupies. This turns out to be quite easy. Before laying track on a new route, just copy in the appropriate tile files, and do a track database rebuild. (Roads, if any, will also regen.) Then go in and select, note parameters, and relay, any dynamic track to regenerate files that are not generated by a rebuild.Jerry

RE: RMD-4, Signage gang reaches Avery

According to the images I have of it, from several sources, and the Pentrex Tape set, the yard was electrified, and enough of the lead, which forms the passing track, at the west end, was electrified so that a westbound could pull into the yard, then cutoff from the train, and then the electrics would work their way to the engine house located about where the snow plow is sitting, and the diesels (or steam) which would have already positioned themselves further west on the lead, would simply back down onto the train. Near the depot, there is a crossover to allow passenger engines to get into the clear without having to go all the way to the west end.Avery lacked enough space for a Wye, but there was a turntable, so that all turning of power, steam, diesel, or electric was handled by the turntable.Jerry
