Colleagues,I perused the Net, and found a site that gave the regulation dimensions for an NFL football field. Following this, and assuming that a highschool field was at least similar, attached is a view of Alberton, essentially complete (I have added the dumb cat. supports) and note the prominent football field. The two schools are the larger building toward the bottom, slightly right, with the newer appearing one being arbitrarily the elementary school.J. H. Sullivan
Football fields come in four variations.....All but the last are 66 x 120 yards (this includes the endzones) leaving a 66x100 playing area. The major difference in all fields is the location of the hashmarks....High School hash marks are 22 yards apart and 22 yards from the sidelines (divides the field into thirds).College and Pro hash marks are different as well. I'm not sure of the actual locations. If the school (high school) plays 8-man football then the field is 40 x 100 (including endzones) with a playing area of 40 x 80, again hashes divide the field into equal thirds.JBD
Jerry,Alberton High School was a small, Class C school (they were in the same district as my home-town school, Drummond High School and we competed with them in sports), so they probably had the smaller field. Their mascot was the "Panthers", and they had a legendary football and basketball coach in the late 60s and early 70s (known for pushing the rules to the limit, and seeing if the refs or opposing coaches were on their toes).During my 30-year class reunion last Saturday in Drummond, we incidentally reminisced with our coach about Coach Frank Kibbee and his legendary antics at Alberton High School -- he really knew how to push the buttons! One time during a basketball game, a jump-ball was called and his player was at a definite height disadvantage. He called time out, waited one minute and then substituted a taller player. Our coach turned purple, stood up and yelled, "Frank, you can't do that!!" Coach Kibbee still had a smile on his face while our team shot the technical foul.Alberton built a new high school gymnasium complex sometime around 1972, so the new school on your sim may actually be the high school, and not the elementary. Looks great--keep up the good work!
