I have a route that encompasses the standard flat terrain without any real world terrain. Is it possible to update this route with DEM or DEMEX? I realize that I will loose some of some of the track, scenery, and signals. Thanks,

I think it would be possible but I think most of the track and objects would be above or below the terrain and you may also want to lower the DEM height to have the lowest point in the area as 0 meters so it stands a better chance of matching up.http://groups.msn.com/MSTSNarrowGauge (Now being updated more oftern)

I have just done this, ie loaded Dem into "my route" and the track, about a mile of station and sidings, is about 4 metres above the ground. Being a novice with Demex, camn you possibly advise me how to adjust the Dem Height?

I think I have solved my problem. I went over all the track & objects & gave then the "Y" treatment. This made the terrain look messy. Next day I redid it with Demex, setting the elevation to 10m, and it now looks OK.

Hi Walter!Like Jonathan said: Yes, you can do it.However, whatever the minimum altitude of your DEM is, your existing track will be that far below it. i.e. If the lowest elevation is at 353', then that's how far below the DEM terrain your flat track will be. Lowering the DEM terrain as per Jonathan's suggestion will be a start... but I suspect you'll have so much tedious/potentially corrupting work (corrupting: dealing with the interactive objects) ahead that you may be better off to just start over with DEM'd terrain. Probably not the answer you were hoping to hear, huh?

I seem to recall that Jim Duncan was attempting a conversion of his route. I wonder how he made out.

RE: How do I update a route with DEM and DEMEX?

Well. I was wrong in my previous message. When I ran a train the terrain was unusable, just the roof of the loco visible, or no terrain at all As there was not very much I deleted the track, Objects, Paths, Services etc; also the trk.bk folder. Now when I try to load the Route the message " Failed to load trackbase" appears, and it reverts to the Editors screen. Could you advise me what to do next please? As I was not very far into the track building I do not have a back-up copy
