Hey everyone. I'm starting to gather DEMs for the route. I'm planning to have it go from North Adams to East Deerfield. I also plan to model Hoosac with two tracks but no electrification. Please post any suggestions you may have regaurding the route and what could be included.
Well first off I'm glad you are going forward with this. Hopefully you won't grow frustrated with the route editor like me because I would really like to see this route come in to existance. I will finally have a home for so many of Dwight Mitchell's (and others') repaints. Also I don't think I have run through any five mile long tunnels before. Well I'm gonna try and sleep now, and maybe I'll dream up some ideas for you."Guilford Rail System, Mile Post two six two point four detector working"There's one idea. How about making a sound file for a detector at Zoar? Ok maybe just concentrate on laying some track down first. I'm thinking way ahead here.

I take it you're new to route building? If so, some general guidelines:1. TRACK ONLY first. Placing some roads along the way okay. Static scenery (trees, buildings, etc,) okay to place.2. After your track is finished, finish your roads. 3. FINISH ALL scenery work.4. Do some tdb rebuilds along the way during the above. If you have a problem, it's best to find it out as soon as possible so you can correct it.5. When finished with all your track and roads, but BEFORE you begin to place Track Objects, do a tdb rebuild. IF it is successful and after determining no rogue blue poles exist: BACK UP and keep this version in a safe place. This is the Backup version you'll have to fall back to if you blow up your route botching point 6 below!6. ONLY AFTER ALL of the above is done: Begin placing Track Objects. (i.e. Track names, signals, pick up objects, level crossings, etc.) DO NOT EDIT ANY TRACK ONCE YOU'VE PLACED THE TRACK OBJECTS!!!!!Oh, and SAVE often while working in RE and BACKUP often. Track laying:1. Try to keep your elevation changes at .300 or less. .300 makes for a nice visual "cue" that your elevation is changing without it being too obtrusive.2. Do not mix/match radii during an arc (curve). Examples:Okay: 10d 10d 10d 10d Okay: 500d 10d 10d 500d Jerky/Not okay: 500d 10d 500d 10d Worse: 10d 10mStr 10d 10mStr 10dAbsolutely, positivily, forget using the 45 Yard Curves in a mainline setting. In fact, I avoid them altogether. They are tremendously tight curves.3. Keep a short tangent (straight track) in between reverse (S) curves. The tangent needs to be about as long your largest engine you anticipate running. This makes for a nice, flowing scene when in the cabview. The sim will jerk a train through/around just about any kind of trackwork, but it will look awful doing it.4. ONLY use 10d curves for track with speed restrictions. For diesel engines, anything over 25 MPH around 10d curves and the view "lurches" too much to be visually pleasing. Looks hokey. Small steam can look okay on 10d's up to about 30 MPH. This is a cabview rendering issue, not an external view issue.Take your time and enjoy the ride. You're fortunate that you have an entire library of free stuff to use on your new route... ought to try building every item! I settled on modern day but the tunnel will have two tracks since that's what the tunnel was built to handle. Sorry to those who planned on running doublestacks. I also was pondering the Idea of including the HT&W and Adams branch to Pittsfield. Good Idea? The route of course will have distant mountains. I just have one question for those who have worked on route before. Last time when I made the tunnel, for a time, the game kept crashing when eastbounds were in the tunnel. If you ran into a situation like this, how did you handle it?
hmmmm , and I have started on a North Central Mass route. Probably from Gardner/Fitchburg area to Springfield/Palmer. should only take about eleventeen years.F.Y.I. It will NOT be prototypical, it will merely have the same flavor as this area."I do what my Rice Krispies tell me to do"
