RE: elec. and non elec. route

You can do it graphically, but MSTS won't prevent you from running electric locos on the "non-electrified" portion.Regards,Eric

RE: elec. and non elec. route

Hi tunturi,There are some posts in the traction forum covering the various "tricks" to have some track without overhead wires in an electrified route, or some overhead wires in a non-electrified route. Have a look over there. As stated by others, in the route's properties (.trk file) you can only set the entire route to either electrified or not. So all you can do is "hide the wires". Elec. and non elec. route – image 1

Some days ago I asked something similar in my post:
http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/11890.htmlNow, I'm making a route that is mainly Non electrified, but 20% of it is Electrified with third rail. This is what I found the best and simplest solution:
I set my route as "Non electrified".For the electrified part, where electric trains run, I created many activities, so that you can drive electric trains (even if my route is not electrified indeed), and/or you can pass electric traffic.
For the other 80%, that is not electrified, the activities are done only for diesel trains. So the activities show what happens in real life. What I cannot do here, is Explore the route with electric trains.

RE: elec. and non elec. route

Hi Eduardo !If you are talking about Electric Trains running on third rail sections you can make them "Diesel" in their .eng files, which will save you having to lay Overhead wires underground or so high up in the air that they become invisible.I did that to a French TGV, it's Pantos staying down being used as Diesels so that they can run on non-electrified routes too ! Take Care, O t t o.

RE: elec. and non elec. route

Hi Jonathan !As far as I know, the EUROSTAR is for Overhead Wires electrified Routes only, not having 3rd rail power pickup contacts. It can run on 3rd rail tracks but needs Overhead Wires to get it's power from. There are many underground and overground lines in the U.K. using outside 3rd and inner central rails for the supply and return of electricity. Other countries like Argentina, Eduardo is building his Route for, also use 3rd rails but without inner rails, used electricity being returned via the main rails.I hope I got that right ! O t t o

>Wires to get it's power from. Are you talking about real life or MSTS? In MSTS, it can run only in Overhead Wires. But in real life, it can run with Overhead and 3rd rail. The 3rd rail is used in UK, while the overhead is used in the Channel Tunnel and France. It can run with 25Kv and 3Kv Overhead as well.

Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

RE: elec. and non elec. route

Hi Tunturi:A) For an electrified route with invisible wires in the entire route: 1) Make the route electric, 2) set the wire height to -150m - this way the wire is out of view, 150 metres under ground. Result: No wires anywhere, but you can drive electric motors.B) For most tracks in an electric route showing wires, and only a few tracks having no wires: Use the "static track" trick. C) For most tracks in an electrified route not showing wires, and only a few showing wires, place the default wire -150m underground as explained above, and download/use gantry poles that come with custom wires attached. Result for B) and C): Wires in some places only, but you can drive electric trains anywhere (also in explore, as opposed to Eduardo's trick which works only for activities). Method A) is one click of the mouse methods B) and C) however need some additional work when building the route, either by editing .w files or manually fine-tuning the gantry poles with wires.Check out:
