Does anyone have pics of a hotbox/dragging equipment detector installation? I'd like to try and model one for a route I'm working on. If I'm successful, I plan on releasing it for everyone's use. Also, shots of an AEI (not the old ACI bar-code system) installation would be great if you happen to have some laying around someplace; these are often incorporated into HBD/DED installations nowadays. Thanks!Bruce Bridges
Bruce,I've got a couple pics of a CPR AEI reader that I've attached here. I also have official CPR blueprints from when I working at CPR.Let me know if you need something more.Andrew PickellBC Rail Squamish Subdivision for MSTS
I created a generic CR message using an actual recording. The message has the standard computerized voice. As you approach the DED location, you can hear the message go off in the cab. There is definitely a need for DED/hotbox track and supporting apparatus for use in modern-day routes. Doing a quick search on Google, I came across quite a few pictures out there of DEDs. Bruce, Although this article is on modeling a HBD/DED in HO scale, you might pick up some useful ideas for your project. http://www.railroad.net/articles/modelrailroading/detectors/index.phpThe author of the article is quite knowledgeable about CR DEDs. A while back, you mentioned about software you used for mimicking the voice on the DED message. What was the program and how were the results of this experimentation? Sincerely, Walter Conklin
