Folks, this is gotta be the most frustrating project that I've ever been on.
After recuperating from my 3rd degree burns this winter, I went back to my computer to continue trying to finish the MBTA. Guess what!
The route comes up but there is no terrain. Tracks are there. Scenery objects are there but no $%^&^%$ terrain.
Unless someone can help me out with this one, I'm going to BURN this freaking route and let it stay buried for all eternity.
This is more than I can bear.
I had all of the 43 miles of track put in, all switches had switch signals (animated ones).
Now this. Even the backups were f**ked up.Joe simerjoe@verizon.net

Looking at the tiles folder would be like looking for a pin in a hay stack. I wouldn't know what to look for.Joe

Hi Simmerjoe,a few things come to mind...1) A total white-out on the terrain can also be a sign that you did not (properly) define the start tile, if I remember that correctly. 2) Run RouteRiter and see if it finds a problem, such as one or more missing terrain texture files in your terrtex folder. I have observed that MSTS can load but give you white flat terrain when it detects that one or more terrain textures miss upon loading the route, i.e. on your start tile (if a texture misses somewhere along the route and you first have to "fly" there before the problem becomes manifest, then the grid of the terrain still shows elevation). 3) Perhaps a problem with the quadtree? I would suggest you first load the route in the RGE (route geometry extractor) and check that the tiles are checked as activate (marked with a blue cross). Even if everything looks ok, save the quadtree once more in the RGE.4) If that doesn't cure it: Do you still have an old back up somewhere on a CD? If so, rename the existing tiles folder to something like tiles_corrupt, then install the tiles folder from the early backup that still worked (isn't an early version of the route in the file library? That would be your ultimate back-up level)Hope one of these ideas gets you out of your nasty problem, or at least allows you to find the problem zone... Good luckLukas a.k.a Swissie
