I've been working on a new cement-tie texture using Paint Shop Pro to edit. When I was satisfied I saved it as a Targe file with correct dimensions and an alph channel. Then, I opened up TGA-Tool2 and loaded my image, but what I saw was a horrible mess of distorted colors. I tried saving it as a bitmap, and it loaded fine (no alpha), then in the sim there is a messy pattern when I view the track from a distance. How can I make it appear neater? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.-Phil
I don't know the source of the first problem (saving as targa), but the problem of the messy pattern from a distance in the sim sounds like mip levels. Try mipping your texture with ReMipIt:http://www.3dtrains.com/downloads/utilities.shtmlI had the same problem, and this seemed to solve it. Also, adjusting anistropic filtering on your video card might help too.Mark

If you have PSP8, it is not saving the alpha channel correctly, even the latest update which appears not to set the channel for the sim. If compressed, you will get a mess. Load and save in PSP7 with compression off to fix the file. That will usually fix the problem. As far as the moire pattern, try the other tools available to help reduce the effect caused by the high contrast of ties and ballast.SRV Ron
Thanks guys, I'll keep experimenting.... In case you're wondering, here's what it looks like in the sim (without alpha channel). I tried to capture the effect of the rail "clips" used with concrete ties instead of tie-plates and spikes.
