Aug-17-01, 10:01 PM (EST) "Combining 2 separate modifications to Marias Pass." I have enjoyed tweaking Marias Pass by expanding the yards in several areas. My question is this:
Is there a way to take two separate modifications, eg tiles and world files in two separate areas and bring them together so the route shows both sets of modifications?. I made the modifications on two separate machines (two separate full installs) and I believe that the chages in the tsection.dat files are crucial to the program. I have backups of the marias.* files but these also contain info that has to be combined. Is it possible?Regards,

Aug-17-01, 10:37 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Combining 2 separate modifications to Marias Pass." Good question. Without having access to the internal formats of many of the files, I would think it would be next to impossible. Then again, with enough time and comparing before and after snapshots of things, maybe it could be reverse engineered. My TSECTION.DAT file was not modified. MARIAS.RDB, *.TIT, *.TDB, and *.RIT were the only changed files in the base directory. The various tile and world files were changed by the editor and make up the bulk of the 7 MB.The signal files and shapes etc. wouldn't matter for this purpose and could be easily managed. Why don't you contact me offlist with a description of the areas you changed in more detail and maybe we can come up with something.BTW, I'll be on vacation for a week starting 8/28 and will leave MSTS, and just about everything else, behind. Aug-18-01, 10:59 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Combining 2 separate modifications to Marias Pass." When you place objects in your route they are stored in the files in world sub folder. There's one file per tile in your route and the files are named for the coordinates of the tile. If you two versions of the same route with objects added to different tiles it might be possible to copy the changed tile file from the other versions world folder. After that you rebuild the track database. I don't know if this works but it might. I've removed things this way so it is possible that you can add things this way too.

I realize that as long as the tiles are different, there is the chance of adding them without disturbing the other ares created. I think I didn't really know what the "track rebuild" function was for - but if it is to rebuild the track database across ALL tiles and files, well then that shoud do the trick. The two areas I enhanced were at Whitefish yard (West) and way over on the east at Teton. I'll give it a try and report later. Thanks all.
