I'm just getting into upgrading my routes with more details and it's really fun. I was wondering though, is there a way to go around a route without the arrow keys and shift? I'm referring to Cajon specifically. I'm adding highway signs but every time I load the route editor it takes me to Barstow and I'd like to mess around with the many roads in San Bernadino. To get there I have to use the arrow keys and shift to go all the way from Barstow to San Bernadino. Is there any quick way to get to a specific location in the route editor without having to traverse the entire route with the arrow keys? Matt Doti

Yes there is, but you will have to visit each place at least once so that you can record the latitude and longitude for the location. These are displayed with the compass at the top of the display window and also in the camera window. To return to a specific location, enter the lat/lon numbers into the camera window and click on "jump". It may take awhile for RE to load and generate the scenery for the new location. Give it at least a full minute before trying again.I maintain an Excel spreadsheet with the coordinates for various locations on my route. I have a printout of this chart taped to the bottom of my monitor. There is also a program that uses markers to jump to specific locations. I have never tried it and don't know the name.Cal Rasmussen Beaverton, OR (My email is in my profile)Columbia Gorge Route (Phase 2-- Started)
There's a couple utilities that can help navigate RE. One is "MSTSPoker", which can be found here:http://www.simsig.co.uk/msts/I use Poker and I like it.The other one is called "Jumper". It can be found at Digital Rails.Hawk
Last night I heard an old freight whistle blow, as I was sleeping warmly in your bed-And it told me "Boy, it's time that you was packin' up to go.", but I smiled and shook the leavin' from my head.
Matt:First you must notate the coordinates: Latitude and longitude as Calr said, of the point you were to jump to. You will see these values in the simulator itself by pressing the 0 (Zero) key; it will show you a compass telling you your position and direction. The same you will have up in the Route Editor; Also, either in the Activity Editor or in the Route Geometry Extractor you will see these latitude and longitude values by passing your mouse pointer right on the map, at the point you want. And you can also see these values in the .MKR file, where the markers are set.Once you have both values, in the R.E. you just press the Home (Start) key, located in your keyboard close to the insert key, and a window appears, now you enter these values, and just press OK and you jump to that location at once! And so you can jump from place to place. If you want to change the tile where the route editor opens your route, open the RGE, load your route, load the QuadTree, zoom as much as you can, and over the tile you want to start from, drag a rectangle around only that tile, now right click, and in the popup menu click at the bottom in Route Editor Start Tile. save QuadTree and close all the RGE. Be sure that you selected well that tile. If necessary, do it twice to be sure. (Many people fail because the tile was not actually selected). Next time that you open the RE it will start on your new location.Try to put the right values, to jump right where you want to.If you build a long route you cannot explore all the way with the arrow keys.Good luck!
Excellent, Eduardo !Could not have explained it better myself ! I think you may turn out to be another contributor to the HOWTO section, AFTER you have taken care of what takes precedence first !!!Take Care, O t t o.

The best way I've found for do this has three steps: 1.- Print a good map of entire route. 2.- Open the Activity Editor and move the cursor over the main screen. As you do that, in the upper left corner you'll see the LAT-LON values. Take note of those values in the specific points of your interest. 3.- Open the Route Editor, fill in the Camera View the values you have. After this, feel like Mr.Spock Greetings for you all from Argentina
