When I right click inside a folder the popup menu is missing the item to create a new folder. This is Win98se.
Here is a pic showing the right click popup menu. Anyone with an idea on how to alter/add to the menu?Any help much appreciated.

Vince, no help at all, but I don't have the right click option either. Have always had to go up to the file menu to do it. That's where 'Power Desk' or one of the many Explorer replacements (many freeware or nominal cost shareware) come in so handy. btw, using 98SE also .. forgot to mention itRobertR .. RE: Right Click Problem

Otto, that is a screen shot takeen immediatly after I right clicked in an empty area in the window. The popup menu shown is what comes up on the right click. It is missing the menu item "CREATE" which if it were there, clicking upon it would bring up a sub menu with a choice of either "FOLDER" or "SHORTCUT". As you can see, the "CREATE" item is missing. I'm afraid this is a possible regestry problem and the OS is useless without the ability to create new folders.

Is this what you want to do, Vince, Create a New Folder ?O t t oP.S.: That is also in WIN-98SE and you could be right, Hawk. Vince's Pop-Up window looks different to ours ! Another thought, is there a setting or utility running on that machine which does not let you create New Folder, causing the New to disappear ? Right Click Problem – image 2

Thats correct OttO. The popup menu is missing the "New" selection item.
Question is, how do I add/delete menu items so I can add the "New" back in.
I might add this happened after some tiny young fingers got a hold of my system. This is the only trouble I've seen. . .so far!!

RE: Right Click Problem

Vince, until you can sort out how to restore the missing New this is another method of doing it, as mentioned in another reply:Right Click Problem – image 3When in a Routes or other Folder window pane, Click on File / View / New. Check whether that works or has it been turned off too ?O t t o

RE: Right Click Problem

Checked it out. I use Power Desk which brings up the new folder option with the right click. Windows XP explorer doesn't have it as a right click option.SRV Ron

RE: Right Click Problem

That's peculiar, Ron !Both my WIN-98SE and WIN-XP home have a Right-Click option to bring up this Pop-Up when used in the right pane of the WIN-Explorer in CLASSIC Mode, including "New" and the Folder's properties.O t t o

RE: Right Click Problem

It looks like Vince might have a point here. I'm running 98SE also. Here's a shot of what I get when I right click in an empty area.Right Click Problem – image 4Just a little different.Hawk

RE: Right Click Problem

Thanks Nick but sorry to say 'no joy'. The pre-reqs for this is to have Windows Desktop Update component, something I don't have. I'm running IE6.Anyway, I got it mostly fixed. Right clicking on the START button still has Open greyed out but the popup menu now has the New item in the list.
How did I fix? System Information\Tools\Internet Explorer Repair Tool
How did I arrive at this? Nothing special, being at this time, extreamly desperate, I openen the tool list and one by one starting at the bottom, ran all the tools. Figures it's the first one and me starting at the end.
When I ran the repair it first said unable to fix because MSXMLR.dll was missing. . .Ahh Hah. . .this is where the little 8 year old fingers come into play. Someone, who shall remain nameless, had started and run my AnalogX DLL Archiver. This program tries to find dynamic linked libraries (dll's) that are not linked to installed software. It scans, then puts up a list of dll's that might possibly not be used in the system. Some dll's listed you should never mess with, especially those in the Windows\System folder!!
But little hands did not do this and answered "ARCHIVE ALL" to the question. So AnalogX removed the msxmlr.dll (and a bunch of others) from the system folder. I really do love teaching kids about the joys of the Windows OS and what happens when you don't 'just say no.' So today a young person learned that if you do not understand something, cancel is the best answer.Thank you all for assisting me with this bug, i't been a real learning experience for me.
Here is a screen of the tools menu.

If you don't already have it, download "tweakui" from microsoft.com. You may have to do a search of their site to find it. Make sure you get the correct version for your version of windows.Tweakui is a handy little utility which resides in the control panel. It allows you to "tweak" many different categories of registry entries used by the user interface without incurring the risks involved in editing the registry. The are options included to modify the "new" function.Cal Rasmussen

RE: Right Click Problem

Thanks Cal, got TweakUI but checking or unchecking any of the items under the 'New' tab had zero effect. Now I can get back to building the ??RR. Fully DEM'd and trackwork started.

Actually, Vince, if you don't have the Windows Desktop Update component installed, just add the sub-key to the registry and it fixes the problem. That's easiest solution. The attachment is a .reg file that adds the sub-key. You could ownload it, rename the file extension to .reg, and double-click to add it to yur registry. On the other hand, since you've found a fix, I guess it's no longer a problem.Nick

RE: Right Click Problem

Vince, from what I can see in your screen shot the problem is that you have the activities folder selected. Try clicking in the white area of the folder and make sure none of the icons have the box around the name of the folder or file as your activities folder does in that screenshot. As long as a folder or file is not selected, you should get a menu for new and then a sub menu for folder when you right click the mouse. I hope that this helps, George.
