Just wondered what the best way is to go about taking out certain routes on MSTS? I recently fuddled up Marias Pass by trying to do track work, not knowing what I was doing. When I tried to reinstall USA2 from the CD's, I inadvertanly wiped out my USA1 (NEC) which was working fine. Yet my Kicking Horse Pass remained okay? So I just did a full re-install of MSTS of NEC, MP, and Tokyo/Hakone - but have WAY to much on my old laptop now, with KHP and recently the fantastic Canton to boot. So I'd like to 'safely' remove NEC and Marias Pass I think? Any 'Do's And Don'ts' that could be offered would be greatly appreciated.

Sure, you can go ahead and remove marias pass and the nec,how-ever you will still have consists files located in the "Consist" folder which will have to be removed, other -wise if ya don't it will cause alot of errors. You'll have to figure out what consist files are for each route, then "delete" them.Good luck

Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

RE: How to safely UNINSTALL a route?

One problem you'll run into: If you delete any of the default routes, you'll have serious problems installing most new add-on routes.
The reason being that most add-on routes require all 6 (six) default routes to be installed so they can copy certain files from them to the new route.Hawk

Last night I heard an old freight whistle blow, as I was sleeping warmly in your bed-And it told me "Boy, it's time that you was packin' up to go.", but I smiled and shook the leavin' from my head.

Keep in mind that DELETING any of the MSTS Default Routes will cause problems the next time you want to Install an ADD-ON Route.Consists missing required by Activities and missing Rolling Stock for Consists are other problems. So take care what you remove from your Laptop !What you really need is a Desktop Computer with more Disk Space, better Graphics and general performance !O t t o

Thanks a bunch guys! I think I'm going to be happy for awhile with all I've collected Route wise. And as long as nothing is being 'shared' from route to route while MSTS is active was my biggest concern, but it sounds like each Route is 'contained' to itself then? I think what Stooopid Person says makes sense, and I've gotten into trouble for deleting a boxcar and all these 'Database Errors' next time I fired up MSTS. But 'consists' themselves don't take up much MB space I believe, so I probably won't try to delete any of those?I hear you on a new PC and all too, but until I win a lottery...
(I'm 'between assignments' as they say)

Yes, consists don't take up much space, only a few KB. But if you have too many consists(more than 899), there might be problems with MSTS.
So if you try to delete. You would have to be careful, since consists, especially the default ones, might be shared in activities of a route.
