Hello All,
I have installed Demex, USAPhoto, and Waypoint, and all seem to be functioning correctly, but I cant seem to get the way points into RE. Could someone please provide me a step by step sequence of how to get these way points into RE? Thank you,
Brad Brooks

RE: Merging Dem, USAPhoto,Waypoint, and RE

Brad,
Make sure the marker file has the same name as your route. Look at name of your .rdb or .tbd file to see what the name should be. Also make sure it is in unicode and has the proper header, which should be OK if you used DEMEX to create it.Step by step:
1. Use USA PhotoMaps to mark the positions of your waypoints and give them a name. This creates a waypoint file.
2. Use "Create USAPhotoMaps Markers" under Utiities in DEMEX to create the marker file. The USA Photomap waypoint file will be your source file. Your route folder with the name of your route will be your marker file with the extension of .mkr. (Look at the default routes to see how it was done). That's all there is to it. When you open your route in the editor, the markers should be there.Larry

When you say they're functioning correctly, how do you know? When you use Waypoints, you have to save the file somewhere. What did you name the file, and where was it saved? Have you tried to open the file and see what was in it?Lotsa questions, but this'll help us to figure out where the problems are at. The gang here should be able to get you moving pretty quickly if we know just what's happening.Andy

RE: Merging Dem, USAPhoto,Waypoint, and RE

after I create the route with the route geo. extractor I get a route folder with the correct file name, but there is no .mkr file. do I need to create one manually? I do have a USAPhoto marker file with the correct name, but no where to put it.
Thank you,
Brad Brooks

RE: Merging Dem, USAPhoto,Waypoint, and RE

If I remember correctly, the USAPhotoMaps file has an .xml extension or something like that. That won't work directly in MSTS, so you'll have to use one of the other programs to generate your .mkr file. Larry mentioned DEMEX as the way to convert from USAPM to MSTS, but I've used Waypoints. I think they both do pretty much the same thing. Crank up DEMEX or Waypoints (which ever one you want to use) and use the OPEN command to load the USAPM file. Then save or export (I can't recall the exact terminology) to .mkr format. I think you have to type in the ".mkr" when you use Waypoints. You can save this file in whatever folder you prefer, as long as you remember where it is. Just make sure you move or copy it to MYROUTE.mkr in the Train Simulator/ROUTES/MYROUTE folder.I've started using several USAPhotoMaps files for each route - one for the mainline, one for branch lines, and one for roads. By using Waypoints and generating different marker files, I can install the specific set I need as I make progress. That way I don't have zillions of markers in the way when I want to place scenery or other details.Good luck! I remember trying to figure out the mystery of marker files myself - once you've got it working, it seems simple, but it's not an intuitive process.Andy

RE: Merging Dem, USAPhoto,Waypoint, and RE

Brad, You also need to be careful with the Waypoint names. Try to avoid punctuation as I have found some characters like ], /,and ? will cause a problem and none of the waypoints will display. Just to give you an idea when I create my waypoint names I use I tend to use something along the lines of JH 34 where the first letter corresponds to the first letter in the town/waypoint I am laying rail away from, the second letter corresponds to the town/waypoint that I am headed towards and the number is just so I know where in the sequence I'm at. That way if something is not looking right in RE you can go to that point quickly in Photomaps.HTH,
Bill.
