Colleagues,I discovered something tonight that may not be new to many of us, but may help the newbies. After clearing 2 Orphan Blue Poles, and 3 rebuild errors on Friday, I had completed the N. Fork of the St.Joe River and Loop Creek as far as both need to go (I will use transfers for the small rivulets that feed the headwater of Loop Creek), and then I completed putting in the water panels for the Clark Flork & related streams to Paradise, still need to go a couple miles further, near Paradise, then I need to do the St.Regis (about 20 miles) and the Cour de'Alene S.Fork, about 10 miles - lotsa water around this one, most of it flowing downhill. Then tonight, I decided to reset activity paths on all 3 routes of the RMD-4 as a test. In doing so I found another Orphan Blue Pole that had not caused a failure in the database rebuild, but did produce a broken path error, in an existing activity. Again, this one is likely caused by a dynamic piece bridging between world tiles, so tomorrow afternoon, when I am brighter eyed & bushier tailed, I will tackle this one. None of the other routes, including the rest of this route beyond the blue pole indicated any problem.Discovery: It seems possible that these Blue Poles may be generated by a rebuild process, since all of them were in areas that had not previously given trouble, and oddly, the first two that I discovered did not affect creating a activity. In the case of the one thus found, the dynamic is about a 10 degree curve, so I will used fixed pieces to build back onto the tile that the dynamic starts on, and then use a replacement dynamic to fill the gap, all on one tile. I have some leeway as to the route c/l, and do not know what the curve is supposed to be, because I don't have NP profiles. That makes it easier to do whatever fudging is required. While in RE, I planted my marker, "Tree1" precisely on the Blue Pole, which should mark the offending piece (50m straight tacked, or supposed to be tacked, on end of dynamic). The procedure is to find the piece on the world tile, manually delete it, then do a rebuild. If that is successful, go back, find out what the parameters of the dynamic are and delete it. Then reassemble between the ends. Newbies can refer to numerous posts on this subject for the details, and most of the folks are always willing, even eager, to help.J. H. Sullivan

RE: RMD-4, Blue Pole (again) & learning curve

Problem was fixed at 2pm, EDT, 5-10-04, and creation of 4 routes indicates that there are no more OBVIOUS problems.J. H. Sullivan

Jerry, now that again is a damn clever way of flagging an offending item to make sure it can be found easily in a World Tile ! Never found it easy to locate them before !Better still to use a very unusual object as a "Marker" not likely having been used in the Route elsewhere ?O t t o

RE: RMD-4, Blue Pole (again) & learning curve

Otto,Well at the moment no trees have been planted anywhere, and I won't be using that particular tree in the route anyway - it is the off-the-shelf "tree1".I use trees that a fellow up in Minnesota created from very high resolution images of real pine, spruce, fir, and tamarack trees. However, your statement about using something very unusual is good advice.Jerry
