Please bear with me folks, this is my first try with X Tracks.I am having a problem laying out a doubleslip ladder track using 6 degree modular switches (a1tPnt6dRgt and a1tPnt6dRgt) and a 12 degree crossover (a1tXover12d).I tried using some of the other listed Xovers, A1tXover12_6 for example but get shape failed to load messages so until I figure out why this happens I can't use the additional shapes

As can be seen in the photo the tracks slowly diverge (are not parallel) as they proceed east away from the camera through the station.
I need to use the 6 degree switches due to space requirements.
Can anyone point me to a decent tutorial on how to construct 6 degree doubleslip ladders so all tracks will be parallel.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Vince !Have a look at Y-TRACKS from Roman. You can download the latest BETA from my website:
www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/downloads/y-tracks.zipIf using his excellent 6.34° Switches then use his matching straights alongside them until to get to other parts of your layout. This will avoid the need for Dynamic tracks due to the fact that his Switches are of a slightly different length than standard straights.X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question – image 2And this is how you assemble a Y-TRACKS LADDER:X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question – image 3Need more help, use the SEND E-Mail Icon above.Have Fun, O t t o.

Vince For the 6d Xtrack switches use the A1tXover11_3d.s section.

RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

Don't forget that you have to have the route developers extra package when doing these things.....Also a word of warning.... placing more than one double- or single-slip switch back-to-back will not work (presently)....If you try to set up a diverging route (either using the G command or in establishing a path for an activity) on any switch after first you will get a "phone home" crash....JBD

RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

Jim,laying Y-TRACKS DOUBLE-SLIPS back-to-back is causing no problems ! Standard 10° MANUAL switches laid one after another also seem to be alright. O t t oX Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question – image 7

RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

Steven, the Y-TRACKS 45m Straights are slightly shorter than a 45m Straight made up from MSTS/Xtracks pieces. Hence me saying that using Y-TRACKS Straights next to Y-TRACK Points is the preferred method to make sure that at the end of a Y-TRACKS section all parallel tracks finish up level, having maintained default multi-tracks spacing ! RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

OttoThanks for the clarification. These sections sure make yard ladder construction easy. My only suggestion for you would be some multi-track versions (for large ladders).Steven

OttoHere's a picture of CP's Coquitlam Yard, where there are several large yard 'throat' areas.
X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question – image 9The multi-track sections are best in a situation like this where object counts can go through the roof (I saved almost 100 objects with the new 45/90m straights and 3dBFrog sections).

RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

You are my kind of Train Sim guy, Steven, who also likes LOADS of tracks and switches ! Will be interesting to see what TS-PIE or PIE-TS will come up with in this area of Train Simming, populating yards like these with a lot of Rolling Stock without it grinding it's Graphics engine to a halt ! RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

LAST EDITED ON May-09-04 AT 02:34 PM (EDT)

Thanks to Otto,Steve and Jim for providing illustrated tutorials on how to hook all these track pieces together.

Otto, the Y Tracks are just beautiful. Perfect for the railroad I am modeling so I'm going to start the project using these tracks.I have another question re; the AcleanTrack.ace files.
I see there are two sets of files tagged (for want of a better term) with .MSTS and .LGVFirst, what does the tag (.MSTS or .LGV) signify?Second, which did you use in the photo example you first posted on this thread?Third, where do these files go? In the Route/textures directory? I seem to remember that they also need to go in the /Textures/Snow directory also.
Is that correct?I make an assumption here that I need to strip off the .MSTS or .LGV tag when moving these files to their correct location. ie: AcleanTrack2.ace.lgv would be AcleanTrack2.ace in the MyRoute\Textures directory.
Thanks again for your help.

RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

Vince, the "tags" tell you which Route they originated from, to be removed before using the files. The MSTS ones are really EUROPE-1 tracks.I am using the concrete high-speed tracks which came with the LGV-MED Route in most of my Routes and pictures. If you want a more comprehensive selection of Summer Trackbed and Rails textures then download my selection of them from: www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/downloads/tracks.zip and remove their pre-fixes before using them. There are SNOW versions for all these, I do not bother with, hardly ever running a Route in Winter time. Might include those in my tracks.zip in future ! Acleantrack?.ace and Ycleantrack?.ace belong in the ROUTES\TEXTURES folders and if using Y-TRACKS then their Ycleantrack1 & 2.ace need to use the same textures as supplied by the Acleantrack1 & 2.ace unless you got separate areas of Y-Tracks you want to have their own appearance ! RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

Can Y tracks be used in the same install of TS as X tracks with the same Tsection.dat? I would love to do some experimentation, but many add ons rely on X tracks now...Rob

RE: X Tracks 6d Modular Switch Question

Yes it can be used together and is intended to do so.
When installing y-tracks please use tsection.dat v23 wich comes with y-tracks. The installer will ask for overwrite, say yes.Roman
