This is probably a silly question with a simple answer....but I've built a viaduct and when I run a track over it, the shadow of the train falls on the ground below the viaduct, and not on it. There's something I need to do to sort this...but what??
Sorry, but the sim doesn't allow shadows to be cast from one object upon another object. You can hide this, however, by setting the viaduct as a terrain shape and check one of the shadow options - right click on the bridge in RE and set it up in the shape's properties. The bridge will now cast a shadow on the terrain below. Cheers! Marc - 3DTrains http://www.3dtrains.comPro Series SuperPacks
It's so annoying that you may want to turn the shadow off in Advanced Options in the sim. Your frame rate will improve greatly. The train's shadow seems to just follow the terrain ignoring any object in the way even though objects can cast their own shadow if that option is turned on.SRV Ron
I've turned shadows off also, and do not, for the most part miss them. I was mainly irked when they disappeared as a train traveled over the berms I've created and installed here and there. But, here's a question. Are terrain, road and track sections special case "objects" that by their coded nature are able to have shadows? My understanding that good shadows are cast upon scale rail road pieces, for example. Could a berm become a road (but placed under a track and gain a shadow as a result? I don't think I would go to the effort just to regain shadows but in weak moments questions like this come to me.
Track and road pieces do not have cast shadows against them. What you're actually seeing is the shadow being cast upon the terrain, and because the track and road surfaces are close to the terrain, it makes it appear as though the shadows are on the objects themselves.Cheers!
