Copying default files with Route Riter – image 1

I'm not going to complain. Route Riter became my main tool. It's powerful and practical for lots of tasks. My only doubt is that I have a problem when I try to copy all the default objects from the 6 original routes.
After selecting a route, I go to the MSTS File Utils section and click on the "Setup a new Route" button, and it answers with a "Runtime error 76, Path not found" message.I cannot realize if I'm doing something wrong or there's a problem elsewhere.
Anyway I can copy default files manually, with the "Copy shape to another Route" button, and copy them one at a time.
But my curiosity still remains, and I'd like to fix this error. Thanks to M.Simpson to develop this great program.

Eduardo.

Hi,Have you set the MSTS path with Files > MSTS Path in Route Riter?
Normally RouteRiter checks the registry but there can be something wrong with the registry entry, so you can set the path for MSTS manually.Dick van den HovenCopying default files with Route Riter – image 3

RE: Copying default files with Route Riter

Hi Ed !Another option is to borrow the Installme.bat from another ADD-ON Route. The one I use frequently is Jim Ward's (SNIPER) as well as all the PORT OGDEN Routes Environments, Textures and Shapes, using more of them than any other I am aware of.All you have to do then is to use his .ref files and rename them to match your Route. I am sure he will not mind you doing that as long as you give him and others he collected them from Credit for it in a summary way ? Not sure whether that is really necessary, nobody ever having thanked KUJU / Microsoft for using theirs in Add-On Routes ! Take Care, O t t o.

Hi, Otto:I'm glad to hear from you again!Well, Mike gave me the right answer.
I wasn't aware that we must unzip the Stuffitpack into the RR folder.
I did so and it ran perfectly. But for anyone who has problems with it, there are other harder solutions, and there's no need to borrow a batch file.First I copied all the Shapes and Textures folders from the 6 default routes, and I pasted into the new route's folder.
I copied all the refferences in .REF files of the 6 routes and pasted it at the bottom of the .REF file.
Now all the objects were imported in the new route.
(This was done manually, but it's much easier with R.R.)Then I ran R.R. and made a Batch file.
The whole route was reduced from 466 mb to 7 mb.
I zipped the route and kept the zip file (3.4 mb) into a safe place.
That's all. Here's our new route ready to be built with all the default objects, packed in a small file. Now, I'll focus on the route I promised to you.Regards...

RE: Copying default files with Route Riter

Hi Eduardo,Have you unzipped the stuffitpack.zip file in the route-Riter folder. This unzips into the folder Route_Riter\Stuffitpack and is only necessary within RR for this option of 'Setup a new Route'For Otto - This button actually runs a version of Jim Ward's EZstuff.bat file which is built into RR with Jim's permission. Jim was the first person to find a practical way of distributing compact routes, and RR has it's foundations in Jim's early work.Mike

RE: Copying default files with Route Riter

Yeah, I just tried it recently and got the same error. Turns out I got 86 different outdated and beta versions of Route Riter scattered all over the place, so after cleaning up my registry and deleting all the old exe files, I installed the latest and that time it worked. Same thing happened to me with a few dozen different versions of TGAtool2. One oddball I noted, when trying out the "replace shapes" utility, the little beggar made an hourglass, then turned back into a pointer, and that was it. After reading the help file I tried again, no pop up window. Clicking on the little dash to reduce RR to an icon, I discovered the popup window had popped up all right, but wasn't visible because it popped up BEHIND the main RR screen! I get that same thing with MSTS error messages, the screen freezes for no apparant reason, ALT-TAB to desktop, and there's the "failed to create SMS object" or whatever BEHIND the main trainsim screen. Could this be some kind of WIN XP thing? I got something set wrong somewhere?

JW>>this be some kind of WIN XP thing? I got something set wrong somewhere?<<Nope. . .it's not the OS. My trusty 98SE does it too.
