Where might I be able to find some good sidewalks to download to go in front of stores and such? I've searched high and low in the library, and all I can see is 'residential sidewalks' (which are nice BTW!) I've been using the JP/Slab 10m for the moment, but would love to find 25m, 50m, and 100m 'downtown sidewalks' if they exist? Can anyone direct me where to find them please? Thanks in advance.

Hi John,I don’t believe there are any sidewalks. I looked for them myself and also came up empty handed. Like yourself, I was using JP/Slab 10m also. For the most part it does the trick, but I’m sure you discovered that it can get difficult if the terrain is other than flat.I was toying with the idea of using a texture transfer. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. The only problem with that, is you loose the curb. I like the look of the curb.Best Luck,
Bob

RE: Sidewalks?

Right you are! It really adds realism to a close up street, and 'levels' things nicely as well (if the terrain isn't too bumpy) Don Brynelsen is very good with adding sidewalks to his buildings. But I love Rich Garbers 'store fronts' and all. If only he or someone could fashion a 'old downtown sidewalk', rife with stains and chips and weeds coming up through the cracks @ 50m or so - that'd be great! I've seen pic's of Rich's fantastic lookin Ohio and Canton Railroads et al, and they seem to have some fabulous shots of downtown with sidewalks and all...I guess if one wants them on Marias Pass et al, better buy Canton then and copy the ol' .SD and textures over to the other route? Thanks.

RE: Sidewalks?

Fantastic Michael! I was gonna say 'You just saved me from ordering Canton', but you're too late! But on close inspection of the screen shots for Canton, I don't think Rich is using 'sidwalks' either? Looks almost like a terrain patch as well? It looks great, but either is the size of a 'city block', or just a special terrain skin - I'm not sure? But I'm intrigued with Rich's Canton creation, so I don't mind having ordered it either way. Now will this be under 'Sidewalks', 'Scenery', or 'Clutter' next chance I get to putter around in the library Michael? Thanks again.

RE: Sidewalks?

SWEET! How long would it take you to do something like that? The whole city thing I mean? I putter around for hours and wind up with a street light, a fast food joint on the corner, and a dumpster... But that pic really looks nice!

LAST EDITED ON May-03-04 AT 00:15 AM (EDT)

John,It was a few months back…, an evening maybe. I don’t recall laboring on it for an extended period of time. The streets are accurately placed. The structures in the screenshot are temporary. That is to say, in the foreseeable future (read a year or so) I hope to replace them with models of the original building that were in that community. The entire downtown district had been leveled. All of the structures that you see in the screenshot are from the Sim or the F/L.For the time being, in several locations, I reversed a taller building (backside toward the tracks) and placed it behind the shorter Main Street building to help block the ‘depth of view’. This will work until I can get around to dressing up the background with residential structures and foliage.BTW, did you see Michael's post about uploading the sidewalks??Have a great evening.Bob

RE: Sidewalks?

Looks great to me! But I guess if you're after prototypical to the picture, that could be alot of work I imagine? And did Michael upload the sidewalks already? I must've missed his post elsewhere.Off to scour the library!

I am curious about that picture. The photo looks very old and the buildings are old but that Volkswagen Beetle is not as old as the photo might suggest. I think the photo has been edited to make it look old.VW Beetles first hit the US in about the mid 1950's.Cal Rasmussen

RE: Sidewalks?

Great stuff Michael! Snagged them today, and have been putting them to great use already. It's amazing how much more realistic they make towns and streets look! Thanks so much again! I for one really appreciate it! PS - Cal, I think the buildings were built to last in the real picture. A true testament to masonry young bucks like myself rarely see these days.
