Aug-16-01, 08:06 PM (EST) "Ausy DEMEX no success" Despite my best efforts I cannot get DEMEX to work for Auz. Started with DTED0 and get a valid XYZ file (have double checked UTMS are correct against lat/long). The Longitude does not cross a 6 degree boundary. Have read all the threads I can find & tried multiple times with different methods but program hangs. My best guess is the XYZ data is not 'square'. The delta between consecutive points varies very slightly, kind of like a rounding error. I have seen the post about resampling but don't know where to start there. The lat long is nice and 'square' but not the UTM. Have tried both DEMEX and ll2utm.exe converters. The UTM is slightly different in its conversion between the two, but the deltas still intermittently vary. I assume this is the problem. If you graph the data in a spreadsheet, it produces slightly curved / warped plot. Here is an example of the data in UTM XYZ:
E N height(m) delta E delta N
682640.7 6124708.5 609 18.5 924.3
682659.2 6125632.8 609 18.5 924.4
682677.7 6126557.2 609 18.6 924.3
682696.3 6127481.5 608 18.5 924.3
682714.8 6128405.8 605 18.5 924.4
682733.3 6129330.2 602 18.5 924.3
682751.8 6130254.5 599 18.5 924.3
682770.3 6131178.8 595 18.5 924.4The delta E and delta N vary slightly intermittently. Is this the problem ?I have tried lots of different size DEM chunks with no luck.Has any one been successful in Australia with DEMEX. Any hints ?Thanks JohnCS for trying to help.PW. It shouldn't have hung. Its gonna spit out your xyz data though as you must have two consecutive points with the same number in the first column to figure out the offset, since it expects the data order to align with the UTM axes. You might try manually changing the first two entries to the same number in the first column to fake it out. You'll probably get some trenches/pits in the data, but its worth a try. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-17-01, 01:21 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Ausy DEMEX no success" LAST EDITED ON Aug-17-01 AT 01:36 AM (EST)Definitely v0.6. Couldn't get the one to work that you kindly emailed me (needed some .dll's I couldn't find eg MFC40D.dll). But downloaded 0.6 the other day.Definitely hangs (let it run overnight to be sure - 1.33Ghz AMD 256MB PC). Tried it on three different routes, all double checked to be correct positions and only 16 tiles.Tried your idea & fed it some data with the first 2 column 1 numbers the same - no luck.I think I'll try a fake 9x9 data set on one tile. Can you confirm XYZ data means Easting, Northing then elevation. Do the elevation posts have to align in any way with the tile coords. Is a larger data set than the tile needed ? Aug-20-01, 08:27 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Ausy DEMEX no success" Okay. After much removing of slightly grey hair have made some progress. Tried data from gis depo vice nima. Now, surprisingly, DEMEX does not hang, (thank %$#^). Who knows why - the UTM XYZ files look very similar.Problem is now, DEMEX reports '0 tiles generated xxx skipped', where xxx is the number of tiles in the route. I have tried 4 different size routes with different tiles. All are positively inside DEM coverage. However, same result, DEMEX skips them all.Hmmmm ??! At least some progress :-} Anyone have some thoughts on this ? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
