Thanks to Paul Gausden who provided me with some sample code, I have now set up RR so that when a folder of textures is selected for conversion to DXT1 format. RR will automatically ignore any 32 bit .ace files which have been the cause of problems in the past. The List .ace Details option now lists all selected .ace file sizes and types.RR v5.0.57 (.exe only) is available from my site at http://members.optusnet.com.au/virtualtrains and from uktrainsim.comOnce the files are converted to DXT1, then all the files in the folder may be further compressed using the 'Compress all ACE files in the selected folder' option.Mike
Thanks, Mike !Being the impatient one, I Downloaded and tried it just now on the LEHIGH and this was the response. The same happed with the N.&.J.C. and the Default USA1-NEC. There is also no way to ABORT or ESC from these messages back to the Program Menu other than shutting the Route_Riter down with Ctrl-Alt-Del, something I also noticed in other Options. In the absence of a README I used the "Compress .Ace as DXT1" first as shown below and also tried the "Compress all selected Ace Files" in "GRAPHICS" which did not work either.O t t o
Hi Ottodad,Sorry about that, you get the message if the file is 1024*1024 as makeace.exe will not modify them. However clicking OK should have worked, 'Back to the drawing board'. I will post a new version today (I hope). Mike
Hi Otto,I have placed v5.0.58 on my site, I have removed the Convert .ace to DXT1 button from the front page. Use the Convert all selected .ace to DXT1 button on the Graphics page.I downloaded the LeHigh route you were working on, and it worked fine from the Graphics page. The problem with the button on the front screen (which probably worked ok under Windows 98) was with XPs multi-threading, it was deleting some files before it should, the whole thing got mixed up. I will try to rewrite this later.Mike
Got it, tested it on the N.&.J.C. and it works PERFECTLY, THANKS Mike !Probably one of the worst Routes as far as Stuttering is concerned, due to the high Objects count on some World Tiles and really unfair to test the converted to DXT1 and compressed Route TEXTURES in. Seems to have made a slight improvement in the split seconds the Screen Displays freeze and Frame Rates, but difficult to quantify the "Before" compared with the "After".Take Care, O t t o.P.S.: Now that you got the LEHIGH VALLEY you will find that it is a hell of a Route !
Hi Otto,Yes, agree, the LeHigh Valley route is excellent, now I have to download some more rolling stock to run on it. I did have V1 of this route a while ago. Unfortunately with all you lot sending me suggestions (bug reports) for RR, I hardly ever get time to actually use MSTS Mike
