Just so you know, I will occasionally be reading and perhaps sending a private e-mail or two but for the forseeable future it's highly unlikely I will be posting anything to the train-sim forums.Dave NelsonWP mainline, Oakland-Stockton: 100% complete; SP mainline, Oakland-Stockton: 20% complete; Aug 1950 <<new .sig under construction>>
I am hoping that Dave sticks around Dick. Yes, that has a lot to do with many of us. I received 10 emails and 7 PMs today alone on this subject, all of them, I might add in support. But that is neither here nor there. I thought about doing what Dave is doing, and I will curtail much of my posting until such time as things change around here and it changes from gestapo tactics to more helpful and understanding tactics by the powers that be. I will of course help any one that I can who requests help but that will be pretty much it for the time being. I am almost sorry that I came back after my long illness. I really am. Thank goodness for 3dtrains forum and a few others or I would just give it all up altogether. There have been great strides forward in this game while I was away and it is so great to see. There are some very intelligent and generous people out here in this community. That basically is what will keep me in MSTS. I owe it to those people to stick around. The sad part is what has become of this forum. I remember a few bad incidents at the very beginning but nothing like this. It is ridiculous what is happening now. Posts being pulled with no explanation, no warnings given, etc. Anyway, I hope Dave will stay around for a little while longer Dick. As I hope others will. And I hope that the newly assumed Moderators will get over their "power might" attitudes and we will get back to some normalcy. We can only hope.\ By the way Dick, my hats off to you for being so helpful to so many. I see it everywhere and I respect you for that. There are a lot of others too, so lets hope that that becomes our theme and not the present one.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad Gone, but not forgotten!
As I hope others will. And I hope that the >newly assumed Moderators will get over their "power might" >attitudes and we will get back to some normalcy. We can only >hope.\ Perhaps if the members here would follow the rules as to banner size, not do stupid posts about my friends sick cat, or flaming other people who disagree with ones own political views, the moderators would have an easier job. They are trying to keep the forum civil, something that apparantly the majority of members cannot seem to do themselves. I am not pointing a finger at anyone, but it seems that people take this way to seriously. A whole series of posts erupted over the lack of proper permission about route objects, for example. These matters are to be handled privately, not in a public arena. People here really need to get a grip on their ego's. Comparing train sim objects and proper credit to plagerism of written works is silly. I do this to relax, I do not take anything here at all seriously, it is simply a simulator, and if this forum or what someone else does here gets one all bent out of shape then pehaps they need to reevaluate their priorities. Feel free to flame away. Mike
>Comparing train sim objects and proper credit to plagiarism of written works is silly<Mike I think you missed the boat on this one. Train Sim Objects are copyrighted works, regardless if you sell them or give them away, it's part of the new Internet rules and laws. How would you feel if I sold something you created and freely uploaded to the train sim library? By not listing the names of the people, who created the objects you used, is the same as saying you created everything without any help. A Nation or group of people that do not follow their own rules are doomed. If I ask you to give credit where credit is do and you do not, how can I trust you with anything else? Another point, sometimes it's better to share things in a public forum, that way everyone is informed and aware of the problem and possible solutions.Think about it! Rich S.
>Comparing train sim objects and proper credit to plagiarism of written works is silly< You are correct in that they are copyrighted works, so on and so forth, the point is ego. It seems to me that people are taking train sim and these forums way too seriously. As to not including credit where credit is due, the easiest way to avoid the issue is not to upload routes that contain material that one did not create themselves. I would rather pay for the objects and be able to forget about it than take the time to write a long essay thanking personally everyone whose object I may have included. My own way of compliance with their wishes is to make my route for my own enjoyment. If someone wants a route of the Chicago Great Western, then they can do what I did and make their own.
