Hi All, I've been having a problem with the RE. When i open the program, all of the windows(dynamic track, camera, terrain, placement, etc)stack up on one another, when it used to remember the positions when i exited. Is there anyone who knows of this/How to fix?
Have you changed your screen resolution for RE? This will affect the placement of the windows. You can move the windows around but it is tricky. They have a "sticky" parameter set on them that makes them stick to an adjacent window. I moved most of mine to the bottom of the screen, under the main display window, so there was room on the right for a terrtex selection window big enough to show 64 textures.Cal Rasmussen Beaverton, OR (My email is in my profile)Columbia Gorge Route (Phase 1-- Uploaded)
Why yes, in fact i had changed screen resolutions after getting a new graphics card. How does this affect whether or not RE "remembers" the positions of the windows? I was running 1024x768 on both the RE and the operating system (WindowsME). When i changed some display options, i noticed that a higher resolution was enabled (1280x1024x16)in the RE. Do these two display resolutions have some relationship to each other i wonder? When i changed RE back to 1024x768, it still wouldn't remember the windows positions (Again, not a big deal, more of an annoyance). Thank you very much for your input Cal, can't wait to download Columbia Gorge (takes forever with dial-up). take care, Brian Evans (Stabbing at Reading RR in Philadelphia)
Brian, this could be something peculiar to WIN-ME ?Having re-positioned the RE Windows in the new Screen Res display are they being "Saved" that way ?Changing my WIN-XP Desktop Res and number of Colours as much as I like, the RE remembers it's last Windows locations every time ! O t t o
No, they used to be saved, but as you pointed out (very likely), changing the resolution caused the editor to no longer save the window positions. changing back to the original resolution didn't fix the problem. I made no other parameter changes that might cause this to happen. I was looking at the registry entries for MSTS and there are a lot of settings, most of which i know nothing about. Seems like the answer lies in knowing how and what to change one of these settings to.... (HKEY_LocalMachine/Software/microsoft/microsoft games/train simulator/1.0/HWRenderer). Anyone's guess is better than mine.
Just a guess here, never seen this happen.Try opening one small screen at a time, moving it, then the next till you have them where you want them. Maybe they will stick.Bob
--------- ...the best thing you have going for you is your willingness to humiliate yourself.
That makes sense, Bob !My WIN-XP remembers how the individual RE Windows were placed after changing to a higher Resolution but when I tried to do the same on my WIN-98SE it did not.WIN-ME was just a dolled up follow-on from WIN-98SE, behaving the same in some ways like WIN-98SE and what you suggested will work, I am sure ! O t t o
It's not the "stickiness" of the windows...it's the windows themselves and their unwillingness to stay where i put them upon exiting the RE. When i reopen the Editor, there they are again, stacked up on themselves. Again, the only parameter change i made at all was to the display resolution. I do appreciate all your inputs, it's nice to know there are others willing to help. Sometimes, the virtual railroad is a desolate place. thanks, brian
