Aug-14-01, 05:50 AM (EST) "Convert3 marker program has a bad Setup.lst file" Hi all,After downloading convert3.zip and trying an install I got the error that indata.mif couldn't be found and installation terminated. Fortunately Wes had used VB6 so the fix wasn't hard to find. VB uses the file Setup.lst to determine what files to install and where to put them. I believe this particular Setup.lst file had been used for the convert2.zip packaging and deployment because it refers to the indata.mif file which is no longer included in the convert.cab file. The solution was to edit the Setup.lst file and change the following section to read:
File1=@raildata.mif,$(AppPath),,,7/30/01 11:39:40 PM,45932119,0.0.0.0
File2=@readme.txt,$(AppPath),,,7/29/01 1:38:54 AM,2785,0.0.0.0
File3=@MSCOMCTL.OCX,$(WinSysPath),$(DLLSelfRegister),$(Shared),6/26/98 12:00:00 AM,1062704,6.0.81.77
File4=@Convert.exe,$(AppPath),,,7/31/01 1:25:54 AM,53248,1.0.0.0
File5=@roaddata.mif,$(AppPath),,,7/30/01 11:39:40 PM,45932119,0.0.0.0All I did was change the indata.mif line to read raildata.mif and then copied the line again as file 5 with the name of roaddataa.mif. Don't edit any other things in the file unless you are an experienced programmer. Save the file and run setup again. This time all works fine without any errors. Great program Wes! Thanks.Ken Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I didn't want to mess with it, 'a man has got to know his limitations', and I do!Thanks again Ken, David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-15-01, 07:37 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Convert3 marker program has a bad Setup.lst file" The data is contained within the program. Convert2 uses a file called INDATA.MIF which is the track components of the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics railroad database. Convert3 uses RAILDATA.MIF (identical to INDATA.MIF in Convert2), ROADDATA.MIF (the highway components of the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics database of roads receiving federal funding), or any other MIF dataset that you wish to use.When you install the program, the datasets are stored in the installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\Convert\). This is the directory where the output will appear, unless you specify another location in the Output Filename box. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-16-01, 09:12 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Convert3 marker program has a bad Setup.lst file" Yeah, I found them after I posted this. I appreciate the reply. I also found that you can merge the road and rail data to display together, what a program...!
Now if I could get my dems to work, I'm download poor....I've got files all over the place. The ones I paid money for give me a Division by zero error, and the freebies leave 2000ft walls in my terrain.
Ya know... I view my dems with Microdem before I merge and the elevations are as they should be..... After I export, the elevation is actually 10 times the DLed file. I'm doing mine around Mobile AL and the elevation is probably no more than 60 ft from waterfront to downtown, but after the export, I have a 56 ft hill coming out as a 5300 ft spike, plus a 2000 ft wall around the edges of the dem...My hair is on the floor, my wife has divorced me, and i'm too old for waiting....
I don't seem to be doing something right. If y'all have any idea what I can do, please reply. Regards
Bob

Aug-16-01, 09:48 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Convert3 marker program has a bad Setup.lst file" I had the same wall problem combined with a misunderstanding of the elevation values in MSTS. The tiles are in meters, I thought they were feet as I'm doing Illinois and when I extracted my data I got values in the 600's which is correct foot measurements.My wall was caused by two DEMs that were at different values than the rest. Scroll down through your XYZ file. With 50 foot elevations you should see numbers around 17 if the values are meters, 170 if they are decimeters and 1700 if the are centimeters. If that holds true except for some data points, then you have a DEM with a different starting elevation measurement. Run that DEM in by itself and don't combine it with the rest.Hope this makes sense.David Klemm

"RE: Convert3 marker program has a bad Setup.lst file" LAST EDITED ON Aug-16-01 AT 10:52 AM (EST)Thanks DavidI'll check them out and get back, but I've tried in both feet and in meters, and this dem by itself without merging with the other 8 which seem to be alright... thanks againRegards
