Aug-12-01, 01:55 AM (EST) "Dynamic track link ups" I am so excited after all the problems I had with trying to link up dynamic tracks perfectly. I just discovered something fantastic and it happened only by error. I inadvertantly left a very small gap between a dynamic track and another track. While I was testing the route, I saw the gap coming up and said to myself "Oh OH"! Here comes a derailment! But the train went right over it with no problem at all.
So I tried another experiment. I enlarged the gap a little more about the thinkness of a rail and guess what? The train went right over it with no derailment. "ALLElUIA".
Just thought I would pass this little tidbit of information on to all of you. Try it out. It works by golly. Now if I just knew how to post a snapshot of this, I would show you all.How do you post a snapshot on this or any other tread anyway?Joe alias SIMERJOE Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-12-01, 06:27 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" Ups is there something I had misunderstud? I thought it was impossible to create an activity if the tracks had gaps? I had spend a lot of time setting up dynamic tracks to create the best fit as possible. Kind regards

Aug-12-01, 05:19 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" The trick is to look at the track BD marker thing, that looks like overhead wires above your track, then when they form a continous line, you have constant track.Message Areas - "Dynamic track link ups" – image 1

Aug-24-01, 05:07 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" Even simpler than that: if you've got two blue poles sticking up where the track was supposed to be joined, you haven't got a join! Red poles are switches. The route editor does attempt to join up tracks if they're close enough together, even if they're not quite aligned properly. You just get a bit of a jolt when you drive over it.Geoff Mayo. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-26-01, 03:27 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" So I shouldn't overlap the end joints but back off a bit? I have them slightly overlap to allow me to visually align them but I guess that's wrong??? Please advise.

Aug-26-01, 03:25 PM (EST) 12. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" The white lines at the connecting point of my Dynamic Wye track are continuous but the blue poles show anyway and my locos derail at that end of the dynamic track. I have the visual aligned perfectly but with a slight overlap. Is that the problem? I spent most of Sunday PM working on this and it looks great but the finishing end "isn't working"

Aug-26-01, 10:28 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" You CAN have gaps or breaks where the tracks do not APPEAR to physically connect but the program has a "margin of error" that allows for slight gaps and misalignment. To test this sometime, lay a piece of track on your route with one notch higher or lower gradient setting. Watch the trucks of your locomotive as they pass over the section with no derailments.... that is the margin or error accepting your mismatch.

Aug-24-01, 06:24 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" The gap can be about 0.25 meters. There are also tolerances in lining up track sections and it´s also possible to connect tracks with a rather large (about 1 rail high) difference in height.Willem Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-26-01, 10:29 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" Willem... You helped me another problem earlier this month.... What steps can you suggest in using Dynamic track...I'm having no luck and the tech doc is useless.

Aug-26-01, 03:22 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" Willem... One end of my Dynamic on a wye keeps derailing the locomotives... the other fixed end (starter end) is fine. The track overlaps slightly at the end point... maybe that is the problem. Any clues or suggestions?

Aug-26-01, 08:01 PM (EST) 16. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" Joe,You can try the following: In the editor you must see two vertical lines that indicate the bad connection. Select on of the pieces of dynamic track that overlap and gradually make it a bit shorter, until you see a very tiny gap. After that add a very tiny piece of length. Click on another track section. If every thing is allright now you shouldn´t see the vertical blue lines any more. If they are still there, there is still a problem. First, repeat the steps mentioned above to adjust the length again. If that doesn´t work, try to look at the following:
- is there a difference in altitude between the track ends?
- are the two track pieces aligned?
- is the angle of one end the same as the angle of the other end (tolerance is about 3 to 5 degrees i think)?I hope this will work.Willem Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-26-01, 03:21 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" Joe... Your experience was happy. Mine hasn't been so far with Dynamic Track. I spent most of Sat. and Sunday trying to connect my wye trackage. The fixed end where I started my Dynamic curve works fine its the other end where I try to connect to the standard trackage that causes my engines to derail. I have zoomed in to check alignment and track elevation seems right on target visually. Two blue lines show above the joint but the white continuous line above is connected. The end of the dynamic track overlaps slightly. Should I back it off and try it with the Gap you say works just fine. What am I doing wrong. I'm frustrated!

Aug-26-01, 03:32 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" If you get two blue poles, you haven't joined the tracks, and your engine WILL derail.Try putting a short section of plain track between your switches - joining dynamic track to switches seems a bit temperamental. For example, switch - 7m straight - dynamic track - 7m straight - switch.Geoff Mayo. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-26-01, 06:32 PM (EST) 15. "RE: Dynamic track link ups" Finally got it working by trial and error with the four settings I have been using: start, middle, radius and length. Didn't even try to use the end setting in the first box but after 2 an 1/2 hours I finally got it lined up properly and nothing derails. Thanks for your help.
