Hi guys,Before I explain all this, let me just say that fortunately this was NOT a .ref file for any of the MSTS default routes! I never touch the default routes, except maybe to add a new activity now and then. This was actually for a route I wanted to work on. I had already generated the tiles and used DEMEX to create the terrain. I've also downloaded MANY scenery objects from the file library here and I've already added them to the shapes and textures folders of this route. I also updated the .ref file to use the new scenery in the Route Editor. And there were a ton of new objects! I haven't started building the route yet, so it's still kind of a "blank canvas" right now, other than the terrain itself. The problem is that I was temporarily moving the route folder from my 'C' hard drive to the 'D' hard drive and I accidentally deleted the .ref file! I looked in the recycle bin and even tried the "unerase wizard" to try to restore it, but it's gone!My question is, is there any way, any program available here that can automatically write .ref entries for objects that are already in the shapes and textures folders?? I would hate it if I had to go back and manually write entries for all the objects I downloaded and added to the folders!! If I absolutely have to and there is no other way, then I will. But hopefully there is some better solution. Thanks!Chris T.
-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!----- Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it. Eh, where did my signature go? Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it. Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)! It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet. Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...
Chris, there are lessons to be learned from that and other related points to be considered.1) always back up the Route you are working one after every successful session. Any TDB, "Send...." or other problem and you can wind the clock back to a good copy. I keep a few chronological copies such as NewRoute-1, NewRoute-2, ect., just in case there was a problem with the one backed-up last after all, such as Saved O.K. but would not re-load the next time ! 2) don't do too much in one go without doing the above every so often. 3) Your RAM could get choked doing long sessions and occasional Cold Starts of your machine would make sure that RAM gets cleared now and then.4) Empty your Re-Cycle Bin now and then. If it is full other Deleted items will be removed permanently, although the "Delete" should tell you that it is about to so !O t t o
