Columbia Gorge – Last look before beta! – image 1

Here are some shots of Hood River from an unusual perspective. This was not done with a hacked camera view. The last picture might give you a hint.

I created a short path in order to run a loco for the shots. The cargo ship is temporary. When I finish the "Queen of the West" sternwheel riverboat, it will go in that location.Beta testing in about a week!Cal Rasmussen

RE: Columbia Gorge -- Last look before beta!

Geez Cal, that looks fanfriggentastic! You've captured the look and feel very well. (It's my "home away from home"). After Me and my Wife met, the first road trip we took was to the gorge. She fell in love with Multnomah Falls and all the rest, I had already fallen in love with "The North Bank Road" (Former SP&S). Chase the 4449 along a stretch of road where the toe of the ballast meets the edge of the road and, You'll see what I mean! Great work Cal, I'm droolin'! Jeff.

There should be windsurfers all over that beach, the bay, and the river, but I don't have any and they probably wouldn't show up anyway!Cal Rasmussen

It's unreal how much time & effort you have out into this route. I still remember way back when you started this.for the record ... that water texture is much better than the last one.LaterTim Kent

I thought my description above was fairly clear but here is more detail. First, I layed down a section of a1t2000r20d and then elevated it to about 50 meters. I then moved it out over the water to point that would give a good view from several different vantage points and angles. I then went into the activity editor and created a path on this elevated section of track. I then went into the sim and selected the path just created and ran the SW1200 on it. That elevated section of track allows about 1130 ft of motion without falling into the river. As I was shooting these shots, I did accidently go over the edge....splash!This technique is somewhat akin to movie production studios laying down tracks for their cameras to allow smooth movement during action scenes.Cal Rasmussen
