Colleagues,One of the frustrating things about the RE is that the catenary does not show except at switches. I have been tweaking the tunnel portals and still do not have them quite down to where they should be, leaving a 6" or so gap between the "insulator" and the wire.In the 3rd of the attached pix., you will notice a change in the ground texture ahead of the train. From Butte to PipeStone (or Homestake) pass, I am using 3 zones, or bands of terrain texture, besides the special areas around yards etc. ScrubRock (from one of the other sims) is my ground texture for the Butte area, and other lower elevations, since rain did fall as much at the lower elevations. Vegetation, trees, etc. in these areas is sparce, mostly concentrated along water courses. I am using a max. of 1000 trees per square kilometer, often less. The next elevation band is in the greenish Scrub color, and trees, mostly Fir, will be sprinkled on in the range of 1000-1500 per square kilometer. At the highest elevations, I use the dark green US2Forest texture and Fir trees concentrated at 3000-3500 per square kilometer. Around Tunnel portals, I use 3 of the Fir Tree groups, which are really just a big textured "X", but from the normal views, we don't know what lies beyond the immediately visible. This technique has been used most successfully (I am told) by the Maple Leaves group on the Kicking Horse Pass sim. So here are a few more images for your perusal.J. H. Sullivan
