So what does a route builder do when he takes a break from working on the primary route project? He "relaxes" tinkering with the next route project! I know, that's sick, man, real sick.Oh well. Not wanting to be stuck in the 1900's forever, I've begun to experiment with the "next one". I explored a couple/three route options, and have now settled on what will be next once the North Arkansas is out the door. The next one will also be based on a prototype but this time set in the year 1981. A few historical pertinents:* Boasted the highest rail pass between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains. * Had 3.7% grades.* One trestle was 150' high, and sat on the edge of a 30' waterfall giving a total height of 180' from the railhead to the floor of the hollow below. (Will be modeled.)* Main commodities will be timber related.* Too many other nifty features to mention.Below is a scene I threw together to see how things may look. Though this scene is far from finished, it helped give me a sense of the "feel" the route will offer. Oh yes, you're looking at the beginnings of the "huge" town of "Summit". Population: 25 hardy souls and a blue tick hound. The crew has brought the slow moving train to a stop... time to go into the old General Store and get a cold strawberry soda along with a bag of salted peanuts to pour in it. Ah! Now that's a snack fit fer a king!Out of view to the left, the line punches through a shallow cut, and visually the terrain changes dramatically... it appears you're on top of the world. From Summit you begin a twisting, turning, descent to the valley far below. I still think this route stuff is hopelessly addictive. Andre Ming

That looks great! When I finish my route (99% done) and release it, I am going to take a break from route building and work on some of the modeling projects that I have been putting off. That includes the "Queen of the West" sternwheel riverboat, a more realistic electrical substation, a modern McDonald's, some hotels and motels. Most of these will go into a future release of Columbia Gorge. I also plan to finally get to know 3D Canvas. I've had it for six months and still haven't learned how to use it!Cal Rasmussen

Thanks fella's.One thing about screen pics: They can rather rudely cut through one's enthusiasm at the time! (Which is a primary reason I post them. That is, to see the scene from a fresh perspective.) Guess what I'm trying to say: Now that it's "the morning after"... I see that this little mini-scene has good potential... but also see how much more such a scene needs before it's ready to go out the door. Bottom line: Back to work!Andre Ming

RE: Break Time...

ENR3005 asked:"What route is this? Is it BN's former Black Hills line."Trust me, you'll never guess. When I shift from my current route project to this one, I'll start posting more info. Andre Ming
