Aug-11-01, 01:46 PM (EST) "Object Classes" Hello Everybody.I am desgning my first route, and this may be a stupid question.I Have laid the track for my route but i have come against a problem. When i try to put platforms nothing appears in the object selector. For some reason i have a very limited selection of objects. If I open up the NE Corridor route for example there are many buildings and platform types to choose from. But in my route i have no buildings to select from? It said in the 'Official strategies and secrets' that there should be a section in the object selctor which has platforms and buildings in it, but i have none. Does anybody have any advice on this.Thankyou for reading,Chris Arnold Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-11-01, 02:36 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Object Classes" Haha, the classic problem (or one of them )The problem is simply that you've based the route on the VERY limited template route, it holds very few objects..There are many ways to do this but here's the one I think is the easiest to handle (Note: you might loose access to a few objects from the template with this):1) Pick out an original route with the objects you'd like.2) Go to the route folder of that route and copy the folowing folders to your new route:
"Shapes", "Textures" (Both are folders, get everything in them)
You should also copy the *.haz files just to be sure..3) Now find the *.ref file in the same original folder and copy it to your route.4) You now have 2 ref files, delete the one that came from the template ("your-route-name.ref") and rename the one you've just copied to ("your-route-name.ref").That should do it. A much more difficult approach is to merge objects from various routes into a new one. I'm working on a program that's going to make just that easier.
If you want the signals too you should grab the "sigcfg.dat" and "sigscr.dat", replacing the ones in your own route. You might also want the "speedpost.dat" to get the speedlimit signs.Same procedure for sounds, then the folder is (Surprise) "Sounds" and the config file "ssource.dat"Greetz.

Aug-11-01, 06:14 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Object Classes" I'm also just getting into the route editor, and after running through the route geometry extractor, and creating my land mass, then opening up the route editor, I ran into the same delimma.
Your tip helped, but I'd like to get some shapes and terrain from different routes. It would be kind of nice to just copy the items you want without having to copy the things you don't use. It would make the folder smaller.
I hope you get something worked out to help (I need all the help I can get. Ha! Ha!).
That would be great.

Aug-25-01, 05:51 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Object Classes" I've just released a new version of my RouteTools WorkShop (as descriped in another thread). It holds a function to grab an object from another route with all required setup and files..Greetz.
